A total of 1,355 new transmissions were detected in the community. The capital city of Hà Nội again recorded the highest number of infections with 437, followed by northern Bắc Ninh Province with 98. Kovalevskaya Award 2021 presented to two university professors
Two Vietnamese university professors were honoured with the Kovalevskaya Award 2021 for their outstanding achievements in applied sciences at a May 16 ceremony with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in attendance. AEON Mall wants to invest in four more projects in Hanoi

By 2025, the Japanese retailer wants to build 16 more shopping malls in Vietnam. It is currently operating six department stores in Vietnam, including two commercial centers in Hanoi’s Long Bien and Ha Dong districts. Two British tourists killed in motorbike crash in Hội An: Police

Đinh Xuân Nghĩ, head of the city’s police, said the accident occurred at 3:40am in front of a residential house at No.208 Hùng Vương Street, Thanh Hà District. The two were travelling on one motorbike when the accident happened. The victims have been identified as Denver Christopher Marcus (born in 1997) and Thompson Peth May (born in 1998), both UK nationals, who were staying at a hotel on Cửa Đại Street. As the high school entrance and graduation exams are starting in a few weeks, final-year students at middle and high schools are as busy as a bee at back-to-back extra classes. Some students leave their extra classes and return home at 9:30 pm every day. Like her fellow students, N., a ninth grader of Tang Nhon Phu B Middle School in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, is in crunch time. She has a very busy studying schedule. After school, she has to attend after-hours classes at a cultural fostering center and an English center. Additionally, she takes private lessons in literature and math. Her daily extra classes often end at 9:00 pm. She confessed that she felt under pressure but she had to try to get into a good high school. Highest int’l school fee in HCMC to hit $32,500
HCMC is home to more than 20 schools that teach bilingual programs or programs of the U.K., U.S., Canada, and Australia. For the upcoming academic year, most schools have raised their tuition fee by VND15-40 million ($650-1,730) per year against the 2021-2022 school year. Among those that have announced enrollments, the school fees for kindergartens remain around VND100-300 million per year, elementary schools at VND150-500 million per year, and secondary-high schools at VND200-700 million per year. Depending on different schools, the listed fee could or not include funds for books, uniforms, insurance, and extracurricular activities. HCMC has around 2,300 schools, including 1,300 public schools, with the rest all private. Among the private schools, 900 are kindergartens, 100 inter-level schools that comprise classes from first to 12th grades, and more than 20 international schools.
