President of India arrives (25-11-2008) HCM CITY — Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil arrived in HCM City yesterday on the start of a five-day visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet. The visit marks Pratibha Devisingh Patil’s first to Viet Nam and the second by an Indian president since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972. HCM City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan confirmed that the Indian president’s visit was a manifestation of the traditional friendly relations between the two peoples in the past decades. Quan said he believed the event would unfold a new stage of even closer and more flexible co-operation between Viet Nam and India, especially in culture, trade and investment. President of India begins Ha Noi visit (27-11-2008) HA NOI — Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil is scheduled to meet President Nguyen Minh Triet in Ha Noi today as part of her first visit to Viet Nam. The two leaders will participate in the signing ceremony for a number of agreements and have a short press conference after. The Indian president will then meet Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh. President Patil and her delegation arrived in Ha Noi yesterday. She had a meeting with the Viet Nam Women’s Union, where she spoke with Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, former vice president Nguyen Thi Binh, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and other female leaders.
