Southern African Development Community forum opens in Hanoi
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) forum opened in Hanoi on August 17 to mark the 36th founding anniversary of the community. Jointly held by the Vietnam-Africa Friendship and Cooperation Association (VAFCA) and embassies of the SADC member countries, the event drew the participation of representatives from embassies of other African countries in Vietnam and leaders of the VAFCA. Speaking at the event, chairman of the VAFCA Le Duong Quang said the 15-member SADC, with a population of nearly 280 million people, has not only created a big market within the bloc, but also contributed to the progress of each individual member country and the whole region in general. Cooperative relations between Vietnam and SADC have gained remarkable outcomes, but collaboration in the fields of economy, trade and investment, have not met their full potential, Quang added. World’s largest economies are lagging behind in developing female leaders: EY study
As the ‘Pledge For Parity’ sponsor for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2016, EY- one of the leading “Big 4” professional services firms- reaffirms its commitment to accelerating women’s advancement and calls for individuals and companies to move from talk to purposeful action in achieving gender parity. Recent data from EY & private nonpartisan, nonprofit institution Peterson Institute for International Economics reveals that companies in just five countries have at least 30 per cent senior women executives, with only Norway exceeding the 30 per cent mark for women on company boards. The research also shows that companies with at least 30 per cent women in leadership can achieve up to a 6 percentage point increase in net margin. In the largest global study of its kind, the research focused on data from almost 22,000 publicly traded firms across 91 countries. Canada helps Vietnam develop community college model
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has pledged to expand its community college project which has already boosted socio-economic development in some areas of Vietnam. The commitment was made by a CIDA representative at a forum to develop a Canada-Vietnam community college model held in Ottawa recently. Leaders of the Association of Canadian Community College (ACCC) also vowed to cooperate with the Vietnam Association of Community College (VACC) and support specific cooperation projects between the two sides. The forum included a review of cooperation in the past, especially Canada’s assistance to Vietnam in the field since 2000. The CIDA-funded “Canadian College Partnership Programme” (CCPP) has established a series of community colleges in the country. Through the Canadian College Partnership Program (CCPP) funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, a series of community colleges have been founded in Việt Nam. The Việt Nam-Canada cooperation in this field mainly involves in reforming curricula, exchanging experts, lecturers and students, transferring technology, and building up pilot teaching projects on business administration, technology, environment and post-harvest technologies. HA NOI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang greeted a delegation of overseas Vietnamese women in Ha Noi yesterday, who are attending a conference for Vietnamese women living abroad. The conference, the first of its kind, co-organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Viet Nam Women's Union, will be based on the theme of "promoting overseas Vietnamese women's roles in developing communities abroad and in their home country". Delegates at the meeting briefed the State leader on the situation of Vietnamese women living in foreign countries.
