Dengue fever incidence rises sharply in Hanoi
According to the city Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), they were reported in 26 out of the city’s 29 districts. So far this year Hanoi has reported 608 cases, or double the number in the same period last year. There have been no deaths. Thanh Nhan General Hospital in Hai Ba Trung District has been admitting around 10 patients a day and Dong Da General Hospital in Dong Da District, five to seven. The CDC said the number of cases would continue to rise in the coming weeks since it is the rainy season in the north. Since dengue is mosquito-borne, stagnant water during the rainy season in which mosquito larvae breed means the disease normally peaks then. Philippines records 319 dengue deaths so far
Hanoi (VNA) – Philippines has recorded 319 deaths from dengue fever this year as infections continue to rise during the wet season, according to the Department of Health (DOH). The DOH had recorded 82,597 cases as of July 16, 106% higher than the cases recorded in the same period last year, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire was quoted by local media as saying on August 2. DOH data showed the Central Luzon region recorded the highest cases with over 13,000, followed by the Central Visayas region with nearly 9,000, and Metro Manila with almost 7,000. Vietnam to monitor entrants from countries with monkeypox
Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, China and Japan are some of the countries where monkeypox has been detected. Per the latest decision, foreign entrants from countries with monkeypox will have their body temperatures checked and be subject to other monitoring measures. Those suspected to be infected with the condition will be isolated and have their biological samples taken for testing. The ministry is yet to issue specific instructions on how foreign entrants from countries with monkeypox should be monitored, or when exactly these measures are to be applied. Vietnam has not recorded any monkeypox cases so far. Vietnam turns focus to monkeypox drugs
Drugs in which tecovirimat, brincidofvir, cidofovir, and probenecid are active ingredients are recommended by WHO to treat the viral disease. Monkeypox vaccines have also been approved for distribution in several countries. The Drug Administration of Vietnam on Wednesday called on drug companies to find and import ingredients and produce the drugs. Meanwhile, it would prioritize approval documents for the import and distribution of these drugs and their ingredients. WHO has declared a global health emergency over the monkeypox outbreak, and Vietnam's health ministry has issued guidance for preventing and treating the disease. As of July 30 WHO said there had been over 21,000 monkeypox cases in 78 countries and territories, including seven deaths.
