Domestic air transport sees fast recovery, airlines suffer loss due to rising fuel prices
Vietnamese airlines are suffering losses amounting to hundreds of billions of VND each month due to a surge in fuel prices, according to director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) Dinh Viet Thang. Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) At a conference of the Transport Ministry reviewing its work in the first half of the year on June 28, Thang said as fuel costs account for 40-50% of operation costs, revenues increases are not sufficient to compensate for high fuel prices. He said domestic aviation transport has fully recovered with higher growth than in the pre-pandemic period. However, Vietnamese carriers have not fully escaped difficulties due to the slow recovery of the international market. It was reported at the conference that in the first half of the year, the number of international air passengers has increased monthly, from 103,500 in January to 127,000 in February, 224,600 in March, 445,700 in April, 650,000 in May and an … [Read more...] about Domestic air transport sees fast recovery, airlines suffer loss due to rising fuel prices

Mekong Delta farmers (Photo: sggp.org.vn) Can Tho (VNA) – The “Securing the Food Systems of Asian Mega-Deltas for Climate and Livelihood Resilience ” Initiative (AMD) was launched at a conference in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on June 28. Home to 177 million people, of whom 36% are poor, the densely populated Asian mega-deltas are biodiverse, fertile and productive food baskets dominated by rice, fisheries and aquaculture that support millions of people beyond the delta dwellers themselves. However, tens of millions of small-scale producers living in Asian mega-deltas face risks to food and nutrition security and livelihoods from impacts of climate change. The deltas are also severely affected by more frequent and more intense floods, sea-level rise and salinisation of freshwater and soil. Therefore, this initiative aims to create resilient, inclusive and productive deltas - which maintain socio-ecological integrity, adapt to climatic and other stressors, and … [Read more...] about Initiative to protect food systems in Asian mega delta launched in Can Tho
Vietnam Airlines faces legal headache in sale of ailing Pacific Airlines
The flag carrier is looking for potential investors to acquire a stake in Pacific Airlines while trying to evaluate its value, and whether a private placement offer or public auction is suitable for the deal, Vietnam Airlines head accountant Tran Thanh Hien told shareholders at the annual general meeting Tuesday. There are several different decrees on state capital management that should be consulted for each of the two options, which Vietnam Airlines are studying in great depth, he said. Another challenge involves Pacific Airlines having accumulated a loss, with extra rules governing the sale of such companies, he added. Hien said Vietnam Airlines is requesting the government to help it find a suitable investor in Pacific Airlines in a way that ensures transparency in legal implementation. The state-owned carrier said in a recent report that Pacific Airlines is in a "severe" financial situation and is facing insolvency. The low-cost carrier is reporting an accumulated loss … [Read more...] about Vietnam Airlines faces legal headache in sale of ailing Pacific Airlines
