Dak Lak lays out fruit buffet for domesticated elephants on World Elephant Day

Elephants enjoy a "buffet" of fruit and vegetables marked its World Elephant Day. World Elephant Day, observed on August 12, was created with the main objective of preserving and protecting this animal and seeking solutions to the problem of human-elephant conflict. A project on elephant preservation in Dak Lak, Dong Nai and Nghe An was approved by the Government in 2006. Recently, in Decision No. 413/QD-TTg dated March 31, 2022, the Prime Minister agreed with the project’s adjustment. Under the decision, the elephant conservation plan will be implemented until the end of 2025. Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST), Tran Quang Bao said that the country has successfully implemented tasks to manage human-elephant conflicts between elephants and people which often happened in 2009-2012. Over 8,100 new Covid-19 infection cases confirmed on Sunday

Vietnam confirmed an additional 8,176 new Covid-19 infections in 52 localities on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the ministry's report, 8,163 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 52 out of 63 localities in the country including HCM City (985), An Giang (695), Dong Nai (674), Binh Duong (623), Dong Thap (382), Binh Thuan (369), Tay Ninh (332), Soc Trang (299), Vinh Long (288), Tien Giang (274), Kien Giang (274), Bac Lieu (273), Ca Mau (243), Dak Lak (228), Khanh Hoa (209), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (204), Binh Phuoc (184), Can Tho (146), Thai Binh (134), and Tra Vinh (134). In particular, from August 6-10, heavy and prolonged rain in the upper of Ea Sup Thuong lake together with the overflowing of reservoirs inundated low-lying areas in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. The floodwater was constantly rising, separating many traffic routes. Route 14C was flooded at the section of Ea H'leo bridge; the inter-commune road from Ia Lop commune to Ea Roc commune was submerged at the spring bridge No.12 section; flooding occurred in village 13 which lies between Ira Rve and Ea Roc communes. These caused traffic jams and difficult travel. According to initial statistics, in Ia Lop commune, 92 houses were flooded; more than 430 hectares of crops, farm produce and more than 1,100 cattle and poultry were destroyed by floodwater.
