The MoUs were inked during a recent working visit by Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Xuan Anh to the Southern and Central Lao provinces. During the working sessions with Lao provincial officials, the Da Nang leader stressed the Party, State and people of Vietnam in general and the municipal Party Committee and people in particular always treasured and fostered the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, officials from Attapeu and Sekong appreciated Da Nang’s cooperation programmes and projects with and support for their provinces in 2013-2017. Vietnam’s Da Nang city and Laos’ Sekong province have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Vietnamese city’s continued assistance worth nearly VND23 billion for development in the Lao province in the 2018-2020 period. Accordingly, the assistance will focus on providing scholarships for cadres, upgrading schools, teaching the Vietnamese language, installing computers for schools, supporting the Lao provincial cadres to gain experience in Da Nang city, and carrying out social welfare work. The MoU signing took place during the visit to Laos by Nguyen Xuan Anh, 12th PCC member, Secretary of the Da Nang provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the city People’s Council, on October 24th. Although Vietnam is awash with statistics, the art of presenting simple information is clearly not its forte. After wrapping a bandage around my index finger and soaking it in warm water for half an hour, the result of several hours of fruitless right-clicking around the Games’ official website, I was still none-the-wiser as to where the ‘hidden treasure’ was buried.
