Six more countries join amity, cooperation treaty in Southeast Asia

Representatives from Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates signed the instrument of accession to the TAC in the presence of ASEAN foreign ministers on August 3, on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting ( AMM-55 ) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia . In his remarks, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, who also chaired the AMM-55, said it was his country’s honour to host the signing ceremony. Thailand aims for biggest tiger population in Southeast Asia by 2034

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand is aiming to become the leading Southeast Asian nation in terms of the size of its tiger population by 2034. During an event commemorating International Tiger Day on July 29, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said the kingdom was praised by neighbouring countries at the 4th Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation for its efficient wildlife conservation efforts. He added that the achievement in protecting these big cats was the result of the National Strategy for Tiger Conservation 2010-2022, which helped the nation have the highest number of wild tigers in Southeast Asia. According to the Natural Resources and Environment Minister, the tiger population in the Thungyai and Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuaries increased from 42 in 2012 to 100 in 2022 as a result of a smart patrol system and technology certified by international standards. The meeting was the first activity within the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-55) and related meetings. Pham Quynh Mai, Deputy Director of the Multilateral Trade Policy Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, made the remark during an interview granted to the press on August 4, on the sidelines of a conference on communications about ASEAN ahead of the bloc’s 55th founding anniversary (August 8, 1967 - 2022). HCMC becomes top destination for domestic tourists

The travel demand of Vietnamese increased sharply after the tourism sector had been reopened. Besides, people also searched for overseas destinations in July with an increase of 780 percent over the same period last year. The countries in Southeast Asia were on the top priorities of Vietnamese tourists, comprising Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines showing that the nearby tourism points were on the top list of Vietnamese in the post-Covid-19 pandemic. Vietnam, Australia share resolve in climate change response: expert

Dr. Do Nam Thang, an expert in environment and climate change at the Australian National University, noted that the two countries share the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. They also have great potential in solar and wind energy, especially offshore wind, he said, adding that Australia led worldwide in terms of solar power per capita with 1,129 kwh per person in 2021, while Vietnam took the lead in Southeast Asia with 218 kwh. Russia highly evaluates ASEAN’s role model of multilateral cooperation

For more than half a century, ASEAN has established itself as one of the most authoritative organizations, a crucial element of the new multipolar world order and a hub centered around by many important political and economic processes in Asia-Pacific,  Zakharova said in her remarks to mark the 55th founding anniversary of the bloc. ASEAN's unwavering commitment to the broad and inclusive interaction principle and the harmonious coexistence of all member states, regardless of differences in government forms, economic structures and cultural norms, have enabled it to develop a system of multilateral cooperation mechanisms and become a model for this type of interaction in the world, she noted.
