Ha Noi students win big in ‘UK Now’ competition (11-04-2006) The final round of an English competition entitled UK Now opened at Melia Hotel last Saturday, wrapping up with unpredictable results as both of the top prizes were given to two students of the Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School. The competition, organised by British Council in Viet Nam and Hoa Hoc Tro (Student Flower) newspaper, lured the attention of high school students nationwide since its launch on February 20 of this year. Soon after the crosswords and multiple choice questions about the UK were printed in Hoa Hoc Tro newspaper for the first time, the competition’s organising committee received replies from different regions. Four hundred lucky entrants were selected to join the second round-a writing competition in English-and only eight students were selected to the final speaking contest. VietNamNet Bridge – The “open encyclopedia” Wikipedia and the search engine Google both shown a result that Vietnamese student Tran Nhat Quang won the special prize for the best candidate from very far countries at the 1984 International Physics Olympiad. However, no one knows about this. The father of Tran Nhat Quang, who was then a Vietnamese student attending the Olympiad held in Sweden, has posted an article on VTC News, asking to clarify if there was such a prize. Those, who care about the achievements of Vietnamese students at international Olympiads, would find on Wikipedia the information about the prizes the students won. Five children from Hanoi, aged 7 to 12, have won six first and four second prizes at three international music competitions which took place over June in Italy. At the 18th International Music Competition ‘Pietro Argento’, Truong Thi Ngan Ha (13) claimed first place in Group B (aged 10-12) and Truong Quang Dieu (9) took second place in the under 9 competition. The event has attracted more than 100 contestants from over 20 countries around the world, competing in numerous arts forms. The fifth International Piano Talents’ Junior and Senior Competition saw the presence of outstanding young Vietnamese aficionados. Two first prizes for Group C (aged 11 – 13) and Group B (aged 8-10) went to Phan Thien Bach Anh (13) and Tran Minh Chau (11); meanwhile Ngan Ha and Quang Dieu brought home second prizes in Group C and Group A (aged 5-7), respectively.
