Hue championed the women’s Ne-Waza NOGI 45kg after defeating her Philippine opponent Co Jollirine who was awarded a silver medal. Thailand’s Sakaew Tadaporn and Cambodia’s Mab Sokhouy both finished third. Dao Hong Son beated Tang Yong Siang from Singapore to secure the first spot in the men’s Ne-Waza NOGI 56kg. Hanoi athletes’ sublime performances win gold medals in dancesport
Four athletes win five of the total six gold medals in the dancesport competition at SEA Games 31. Far exceeding expectations of three gold medals, the Vietnam dancesport team won five out of the six gold medals at the biggest sports event in the Southeast Asia region. At the competition on May 15 at the Long Bien Gymnasium in Hanoi, the Vietnamese dancers vied in the categories of Samba, Cha cha cha, Rumba, Paso doble, Jive, and five Latin dances. Hanoian dance couple Nguyen Trung Kien and Pham Hong Anh won the Samba dance event. They also competed in Cha Cha Cha and Rumba events and with high scores, the dancers won gold medals in Rumba. SEA Games 31: Vietnam’s shooting team earns first medal
With the achievement of a silver medal, shooter Phi Thanh Thao was awarded a hot bonus of VND5 million (US$218) from the leader of Vietnam Sports Delegation. This morning, the shooter and her teammate Le Thi Mong Tuyen qualified for the women’s 10-meter air rifle final. After the first 12 shots, Mong Tuyen was eliminated from the final against competitors of Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia with a total point of 120.4. In the next turns, shooter Phi Thanh Thao continued to hold the top three. In the last two shots being the 23rd and 24th shots of the final, athlete Thao was the second runner up with 246.2 points to win a silver medal. Vietnam bagged a total of 29 gold medals on the third day (May 15) since the region’s biggest sports event officially started. The Wushu team impressed spectators the most, claiming seven gold medals, including six in the Sanda events.
