High-schooler offered scholarships by 11 US universities

A pupil in HCM City has been offered various scholarships by 11 universities which are ranked by US News and World Report as among the 100 best colleges and universities in the US. Nguyen Phan Tat Thanh started the Heart of the Youth project for disabled children affected by the Agent Orange Nguyen Phan Tat Thanh is studying at the High School for the Gifted, under Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City. Based on the achievements, Thanh was offered the highest merit-based scholarships. All 11 universities offered Thanh scholarships that are 50% to 90% discounts on tuition fees for four years. For example, the University of Denver offered USD104,000 in scholarships while the State University of New York - University at Buffalo offered a USD37,000 subsidy. He would still be liable to pay living costs. Thanh said he had been thinking about studying overseas for a long time but was unsure about his financial capability. University of Hawaii graduates first Executive MBA class By Quoc Hung in HCMC The University of Hawaii's Shidler College of Business on Saturday awarded Master of Business Administration degrees to 25 students from the first Executive MBA class offered in HCMC by the university at a function held at the Rex Hotel. The University of Hawaii started offering its MBA in 2001 in Hanoi where it partnered with the National University's Hanoi School of Business (HSB). In October 2007, this program was extended to HCMC with the first class of 30 students. Many of them are holding executive positions in various corporate firms. Through the 22 months of intensive studies with a rigorous curriculum, all worked diligently and effectively to earn this world recognized MBA degree while still managing their businesses. HCMC businesses will need 19,000 new workers after Tet Ho Chi Minh City will need 19,000 new employees for 1,371 businesses after the Tet Lunar New Year break, a labor center said. The city’s Center of Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Information (FALMI) said the demand comes from different sectors from sales and marketing, hospitality, design, communications, mechanics and electronics engineering, food processing, garment and leather shoes, to house helping, security and delivery services. A third of the vacancies are for part-time and temporary jobs, it said, as cited by local media. Tran Anh Tuan, deputy director of the center, said the demand is lower than after the holiday last year as businesses have improved their policies to keep workers stay. The center said the city is expected to have around 65,000 job vacancies in the first quarter this year, including 20% with university graduate requirements. Google CEO meets with Flappy Bird creator Google CEO Sundar Pichai has written on Twitter that he had an interesting meeting with Flappy Bird creator Nguyen Ha Dong at a street pub in Hanoi on December 22. He wrote “enjoyed meeting with Dongatory, creator of Flappy Bird, in Hanoi today, amazing where next great developer can come from.” Meanwhile Ha Dong could not conceal his happiness to talk with the CEO of Google – the world’s most powerful Internet company. “Sundar Pichai is a nice and humble gentleman, like most Indian people I met before,” Dong said. People were very surprised and admired two ‘hot’ men with simple costumes drinking lemon tea and eating sunflower nuts at a small pub in a street in Hanoi.
