On January 11, Lao Cai Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue announced that from January 8 to 11, snow and frost had appeared in the mountainous areas of Lao Cai as the temperatures dropped to below 11.5 degrees. The temperatures in Sapa and some mountainous communes in Bat Xat District were minus 0.8 degrees. As a result, 45 buffaloes died because of the cold. The committee urged localities authorities to carry out necessary measures to protect the locals, crops and livestock.
