Two Indian naval ships INS Sahyadri and INS Kadmatt are scheduled to arrive at Nha Rong Port in HCM City for a visit to the city on June 24-26. The visit is among activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and India. The two Indian ships to visit HCM City The visit includes exchange activities between naval officers of the two countries and a meeting between representatives from the Indian ship and the Vietnamese government. The Indian guests will also visit historical sites in and around Ho Chi Minh City, as well as sporting events. Trà Vinh Province grows forests to protect coasts, improve environment
Authorities plant mangrove forests in Trà Vinh Province’s Cầu Ngang District. — VNA/VNS Photo Thanh Hòa TRÀ VINH — The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Trà Vinh is growing more forests and strengthening conservation of existing ones. This is meant to protect the environment, adapt to climate change and improve people’s livelihoods, according to the coastal province’s Forest Protection Sub-department. The province plans to plant 2.1 million trees in the 2021-25 period, 1.1 million in urban and rural areas and the rest in 372ha of forests. Nguyễn Vũ Phương, head of the sub-department, said 200,000 trees would be planted in forests every year. Trà Vinh is one of the delta’s provinces hardest hit by climate change, especially rising sea levels, which have impacted the environment and the lives of people living in coastal areas. The People’s Committee of Phu Yen Province in south-central Vietnam ordered penalties against people treading on coral reefs at the Hon Yen national relic site on Tuesday. The order came after media reports of damage to the coral reefs caused by local people, tourists, and photographers. Vietnam arrests Lao nationals for drug trafficking
The first arrest, of 19-year-old Laotian Xi Bun, took place around 10 p.m. Sunday at the border of the province and Laos in a joint operation by border guards and police. After interrogating Xi Bun, police arrested two others on Monday: a Vietnamese man named Ho Ven, 36, and a Lao man named A Roong Chu, 25. Colonel Bui Duc Trung, head of the central region's task force on drug and crime prevention and control, said Tuesday that the case belonged to a major cross-border drug smuggling and transportation ring involving a "huge" amount of drugs, Vietnam News Agency reported.
