Vietnam Airports Corporation facing risks in airport venture
International financiers may have no room to join Long Thanh International Airport project, with the lack of a government loan guarantee creating a major obstacle for would-be investor Airports Corporation of Vietnam to ensure bankability. The National Assembly (NA) has issued a resolution on a feasibility study for the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project, in which the government will offer no loan guarantee and the selected investor will instead have to manage the fund itself. The move is seen as a blow for interested lenders, often requiring such a government guarantee for initiatives of this magnitude. Vietnam has recently been working with Sweden on the possibility of mobilising a $1 billion loan from the Scandinavian country in order to invest in Long Thanh International, along with air traffic management. China’s consumer inflation hits nearly 8-year high
China's consumer-price index rose 3.8% in October from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said Saturday -- higher than a median forecast of 3.5% by economists polled by The Wall Street Journal, and far outpacing September's 3.0% reading. As it has all year, October's jump in consumer inflation was fueled by a rise in hog prices, the fastest on record, amid an outbreak of the deadly African swine fever. Soaring pork prices lifted overall food-price inflation to a more-than-11 year high, as consumer demand drove up prices for pork alternatives including eggs and other meat products. Even as the surge in food prices limits Chinese policy makers' stimulus options, prices of nonfood items and factory-gate prices continued to show signs of softness, pointing to weakening demand in the world's second-largest economy.
