HCMC, VNU-HCMC sign cooperation program for socio-economic development

The People’s Committee of HCMC and Vietnam National University–HCMC (VNU-HCMC) sign a cooperation program in various areas in the 2022-2025 period. (Photo: SGGP) The program aims to serve the goals of socio-economic development and integration of the city and the southern key economic region in the 2022-2025 period, and implement VNU-HCMC’s main missions in researching, training and serving the community. Viettel and NVIDIA sign MoU on AI cooperation

Viettel is the first enterprise in Vietnam and also one of the five enterprises in Southeast Asia to officially set up a strategic partnership with NVIDIA – one of the world’s largest AI service solution provider corporations in the world. Promoting cooperation with leading partners in the world, especially NVIDIA, reflects Viettel’s high determination to invest in AI development. These activities aim to help Vietnam reach the Prime Minister’s target set in the national strategy on AI research, development, and application by 2030, as well as to attain the goal of being among the Top 5 leading countries in ASEAN and the Top 60 nations in the world in term of AI research, development and application. Vietnam’s marine economy unleashes major potential

Economic value The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment recently coordinated with the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and relevant units to organize a forum on sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy in 2022 in Phu Yen Province. Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan told the gathering that marine tourism brings 70 percent of revenue to the country’s tourism industry; sea freight transport reached 85.1 million tonnes; oil and gas production reached 18.43 million tonnes (crude oil production was 10.97 million tonnes). The output of fisheries production reached 3.92 million tonnes; and aquaculture 4.805 million tonnes. Vietnam to use small satellites to build capacity in Earth observation

(Photo: VNSC) Hanoi (VNA) – Potential plans and roadmaps were proposed to build national capacity in Earth observation using small satellite systems during a seminar held by the Vietnam National Space Centre (VNSC) at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in Hanoi on June 30. In his remarks, VNSC General Director Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Anh Tuan said the Government in February 2021 announced a strategy for the development and application of aerospace science and technology by 2030, aiming to utilise achievements in the fields to address defence and security issues, strengthen management of environment and natural resources, monitor natural disasters and minimise their impacts, and provide related services for people. Storm Chaba poses no more danger to Vietnam’s northeast as it makes landfall

It made landfall along the coast of Maoming City in China's Guangdong Province at around 3 p.m. Saturday, Chinese newspapers reported. At 4 p.m. it lay centered around 320 kilometers to the east of Quang Ninh Province, home to Ha Long Bay, with a maximum wind speed of 117 kph, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. It will move northwest at a speed of 10-15 kph and is expected to weak into a tropical depression by Sunday morning with winds decreasing to 61 kph. Vietnam’s northeastern region should expect rains of 40-80 mm, and more than 100 mm in some places, between Saturday evening and Sunday. A day earlier weather experts had expected the region to be hit by torrential downpours of up to 150-350 mm a day. Rainfall of 180 mm a day is considered heavy.
