Photographer Nguyen Van Ku and PhD of Ethnology Luu Hung have published a photo book entiled “Central Highlands’Rong houses” to introduce the traditional house and cultural life of seven ethnic minority groups in the region of Truong Son and Central Highlands. The Central Highlands covers the southern part of the Truong Son Mountain Range. The region is home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Treing, Gia ra, Ro mam and Xo Dang. It is renowned for it cool climate, beautiful mountain scenery and innumerable streams, lakes and waterfalls. The Rong house is the scene of important local events like meetings, weddings, festivals, and prayer sessions. It is one of the typical and outstanding cultural heritage of several ethnic minority groups in Truong Son region and the Central Highlands. NDO - Provinces in the Central Highlands region reported a total export revenue of over US$2.66 billion in 2017, equivalent to 102% of the year's plan and up 22.71% compared to 2016. According to the Central Highlands Steering Committee, this is the highest ever export revenue of the region which is attributed by more diverse types of export goods. Key export products of the Central Highlands region include coffee, pepper, rubber, alumina, honey, cassava, cashew nuts, vegetables and flowers. Dak Lak province posted the highest export revenue at over US$575 million in 2017, equivalent to 100.9% of the year's plan and up 4.55% over 2016. The province has exported major products including raw coffee, instant coffee, pepper, rubber, cassava and honey. Of which, raw coffee has been exported to 75 countries and territories across the world, namely Germany, Japan, US, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Mexico, among others. HÀ NỘI — The Central Highlands provinces achieved the highest export turnover ever this year of more than US$2.66 billion in 2017. The figure is equal to nearly 102 per cent of the year’s plan and 22.71 per cent higher than the level of 2016. According to the Central Highlands Steering Committee’s Standing Board, at present, export commodities in the Central Highlands provinces are increasingly diversified, contributing to the increase in export turnover. The main export products of the Central Highlands provinces include coffee, pepper, rubber and alumin, as well as honey, tapioca starch, cashew nuts, vegetables and flowers. Central Highlands struggle to settle immigrants
ĐẮK LẮK – Sùng Dao Cán and his wife have cut down trees in a forest and on a hill to plant cassava and build a bare shack as they struggle to eke out a living. “I know it (deforestation) is wrong, but it is not just me. Many others have also done this to grow corn and cassava just to survive,” Cán told the Nhân dân (People) newspaper. Cán and his wife moved half-way across the country from their home in northern border province of Cao Bang two years ago. His family is just one of many who reside in Zone 265, a makeshift residential area at the edge of the Cư M’lan Commune in Đắk Lắk Province. The zone is about 30km away from the commune centre, but it takes more than two hours on bike on trails to reach it. Roughly 100 makeshift shacks with straw and wooden poles stand next to a vast area, once a thick forest, now dotted with dry tree stumps.
