Rise in HCM City child Covid-19 patients ahead of new school year
HCM City is reporting a rise in the number of children hospitalised for Covid-19 treatment while the local health department is urging better vaccination coverage to prepare for the new school year. A 12-year-old student is given Covid-19 vaccine in HCM City Speaking at a Tuesday meeting on Covid-19 prevention, the vice chairman of HCM City People's Committee, Duong Anh Duc, expressed worries over the rising infections, especially among children. Ho Chi Minh City needs over $21mn to renovate nearly 250 old apartment buildings
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed on Tuesday an allocation of VND500 billion (US$21.37 million) from the municipal budget for the renovation of 246 old, run-down apartment buildings in the southern metropolis. The proposal was made during a meeting reviewing the implementation of the Housing Law in the city in the 2016-21 period. The construction department’s deputy director Huynh Thanh Khiet reported that the agency has just completed the inspection, review, classification, and quality control process at 474 old apartment buildings constructed before 1975. The department relocated 982 households living at 19 of those apartment buildings and dismantled ten others with a total floor area of 123,211.4 square meters. The agency also repaired about half of the remaining buildings while the other half needs further investment, Khiet said. Chut ethnic group celebrates traditional festival
Traditionally, every year, the Chut ethnic group welcomes the Lap Lo festival on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, referring to sowing seeds into holes to begin a new crop. This is an opportunity for the group to thank gods for the successful crop and pray for harmonious weather and the next bumper crop as well as good health, good luck, and well-being. On this occasion, the organizers handed over 45 gifts, including money in cash, to Chut families to help them welcome a warm and cozy festival.
