COVID-19: Vietnam reports 2,227 new cases on May 13
Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded a total 2,227 new cases of COVID-19 and no death in the past 24 hours to 4pm May 13, according to the Ministry of Health. Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 495 cases, followed by Nghe An with 123 and Phu Tho with 120. The northern province of Bac Giang added 443 cases to the national log after verifying information. The country has to date logged 10,693,141 COVID-19 cases, including 43,063 deaths. A total 9,065 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 13, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,344,029. There are 333 patients needing breathing support. Siamsport recently published an article entitled ‘Favourite of local football fans!’, highlighting the two games featuring the Thai team in Group B have seen the highest audience in the tournament so far. Thien Truong Stadium, with a seat capacity of 30,000, was nearly full in both Thailand’s faceoffs with Malaysia and Singapore. N.A. Standing Committee’s 11th session wraps up
Speaking at the closing ceremony, N.A. Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue asked relevant agencies to urgently collect opinions of the N.A. Standing Committee to finalise reports, and submit them to the 15th N.A. at its upcoming third meeting. He noted that the draft laws expected to be submitted to the N.A. for approval at the 3rd meeting have been basically completed. Daily Covid-19 infections fall to 10-month low in Vietnam
Vietnam saw a record low in daily Covid-19 infections over the past 10 months with just 1,895 cases confirmed on Saturday, raising the national tally to nearly 10.70 million, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 53 out of 63 localities in the country with some localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (489), Nghe An (115), Quang Ninh (95), Vinh Phuc (92), and Phu Tho (92). As of Saturday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.70 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. On May 14, an additional 5,563 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.34 million. Vietnam’s agricultural sector urged to modernize technology
At a seminar on using science and technology to improve agricultural productivity and quality held in Can Tho city last week, Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung said the Mekong Delta plays an important role in the country’s agricultural production, contributing 55 percent of the country’s rice output, 69 percent of seafood and 70 percent of fruits. It also accounts for more than 90 percent of rice exports and 60 percent of seafood exports. But much of it is sold as raw products at low value. Inconsistent quality is a problem that plagues the region. Climate change and global integration have also adversely impacted the delta’s agricultural production, Tung said. Droughts, floods and saltwater intrusion, often an impact of climate change, have greatly affected productivity and quality. SEA Games 31: Vietnam advances to semifinals after victory over Timor Leste

(Photo: VNA) Phu Tho (VNA) - Vietnam’s U23 football team secured a berth in the semifinals of SEA Games 31 after winning 2-0 against Timor Leste in its final Group A match at Phu Tho’s Viet Tri Stadium on May 15. In this game, coach Park Hang-seo gave the chance for many young players, such as centre defender Duy Cuong, midfielders Trong Long and Cong Den, and strickers Thanh Minh and Van Tung while most of the key players were put on the bench. Despite dominating the game, Vietnam struggled to score in the first half, which saw them draw 0-0 with Timo Leste. Vietnam defeat Timor Leste to advance to SEA Games men’s football semis as group leaders
Vietnam are ranking first in Group A of men’s football at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after defeating Timor Leste 2-0 in their last group-stage match in northern Phu Tho Province on Sunday evening. As Vietnam had already secured a spot in the semifinals, coach Park Hang Seo decided to deploy his reserve line-up in this game. Despite having the advantage over Timor Leste, the Golden Stars were unable to net any goal in the first half. Nguyen Van Tung opened the scoring for Vietnam in the 53rd minute with an accurate header following a pass from Le Van Do. Timor Leste boosted their offensive and were able to strike Vietnam’s net in the 56th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Tourist falls off boat, drowns in Ha Long Bay
The tourist boat Long Giang 68 was on a tour of the bay with 15 tourists on Saturday afternoon when Nguyen Ngoc Phat, 43, a visitor from the southern Can Tho City, stood on the prow. As it was about to approach the Ha Long International Cruise Port, he fell into the water. Others on board threw lifebuoys into the water but to no avail. At around 9 p.m. that day rescuers found his body. The police are investigating and the boat’s license has temporarily been revoked. Ha Long Bay in the northern Quang Ninh Province is one of Vietnam’s top tourist attractions.
