Communal house built for Mang ethnic people
Speaking at the event, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Central Committee Nguyen Hai Minh called on youths and local people to join the “Footsteps for the community” program to raise fund for the construction of the communal house. He emphasized that participating in the event will not only help raise public health, but also uphold and promote the communal tradition of ethnic minority groups. The sixth stage of the “Footsteps for the community” program will take place from August 6 to 28 in 63 provinces and cities across the country. The program targets to mobilize at least 1 million km of walking/running, equivalent to a donation of VND 1 billion, to support the building of a communal house for the Mang ethnic people in Nam Pi commune, Nam Nhun district. Huge transport investment expected to vitalise central regions
For over a month now, relevant personnel at the Ministry of Transport is busy with the final preparations to soon hand over Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway to the people’s committees of Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak provinces. In light of Decision No.17/QD-TTg dated July 28, two out of three components under Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway will be assigned to two localities having the road passage for management. The 32km-long first component with an estimated investment value of $244.8 million will be assigned to Khanh Hoa's People’s Committee while the 48km-long third component valued at around $282 million will be assigned to Dak Lak's People’s Committee. The 37.5km second component with a value reaching $426.8 million will be managed by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) as the road section lies in both localities and features complex terrain. Vietnam spends 4.9% of GDP on education: report
Le Anh Vinh, head of the institute, said investment in education rose every year during the period. The government typically spends 17-18% of the budget on education every year on average, which is higher even than countries like the U.S. (13%), Indonesia (17.5%) and Singapore (19.9%), he said. In GDP terms, Vietnam's 4.9% outlay is higher than neighboring countries like Cambodia (1.9%), Singapore (2.9%) and Laos's (3.3%). The 2019 Law on Education stipulates that the government should spend at least 20% of the budget on education and training. Vinh pointed out two things: "Spending on education has not reached 20%. [Besides,] while the percentage might seem big, its absolute value in reality is small." The rate is likely to drop after Covid-19 since the pandemic has affected every aspect of society and the economy, he said. Indian scientists helps build capacity for Vietnam on monkeypox control

(Photo: AFP/VNA) New Delhi (VNA) – Scientists at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune are training experts from Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand to tackle monkeypox amidst escalating concerns over the disease. As part of India’s response to protecting its population from the new threat, NIV scientists are training their counterparts in these countries on testing, clinical symptoms, case definitions, sample collection, and equipment required for testing. NIV Pune has been conducting such training programmes for other countries from time to time, like it did during the COVID-19 pandemic and even before for biosafety and bio-risk mitigation, said Dr Pragya Yadav, a senior scientist at NIV Pune. General Department of Vietnam Customs’ data showed that the bilateral trade reached US$1.03 billion in the first four months of 2022 (up 15 percent from the same period of 2021), including US$689.13 million worth of Vietnamese exports (up 19.2 percent) and US$342.16 million worth of Vietnamese imports (up 7.3 percent).
