Saigon was greeted with a heavy downpour at the beginning of this week. Getting to work, already a tedious task, was now chaotically worse. Motorbikes pulled themselves to the side en-masse and riders brought their raincoats out. Cars weren't much better off, either. They had to switch lanes frequently, making traffic even more complicated. Buses had no maneuvering room. As the water poured down my face, I wondered, not for the first time: was I better off on the bike or were the bus passengers the happier lot? The answer seemed obvious. They could just sit there and enjoy the rain tapping on the glass, insulated from the outside chaos. Of course, riding a bus in Vietnam is not always the most pleasant experience. The whole route connects six localities, including HCMC, Binh Duong, Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Can Tho City, with 13 stations. The HCMC - Can Tho railway route is a double-track railway, using a standard gauge of 1,435 millimeters, with a design speed of about 190km/h for passenger trains and 120km/h for freight trains. With the above speed, the travel time from HCMC to Can Tho will be shortened to only 75-80 minutes, instead of 3-4 hours by road, as currently. He is considered one of the family. It is only 20km from Buôn Ma Thuột City, but few people know that Tuor A Hamlet used to be an isolated area for a long time. Tuor A Hamlet has been renovated with kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and medical centres, including the leprosy treatment department.
