Haydn masterpiece to be sung in HCM City The oratorio The Creation, written by Joseph Haydn, a prominent Austrian composer of the 18th and early 19th century, will be performed at the HCM City Opera House on May 8 and 9. Considered to be one of the composer's masterpieces, the oratorio tells the story of God's creation of the world in six days as it is related in the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament. The classical orchestral work is structured in three parts and is scored for soprano, tenor and baritone soloists as well as a chorus. The performance, to be directed by well-known Norwegian conductor Lars Notto Birkeland, will feature international opera singers, including soprano Cho Hae Ryong, tenor Erlend Tvinnereim, baritone Halvor F. Melien, and the HCM City symphony orchestra and choir. Birkeland will play the harpsichord during the singers' recitatives. Ancient ceramic sculptures on display in Hanoi An exhibition showcasing more than 70 statues of ancient ceramics, dating back thousands of years, opened at the National History Museum in Hanoi on April 22. The historical items were divided into three categories – realistic, belief and architectural purposes. The event aimed to help visitors gain a better understanding of Vietnamese sculpture and honour the nation’s historical, cultural and artistic values. It will run until the end of August 2014 at No1 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi. The Museum has installed an auto-guide service in both Vietnamese and English to introduce its exhibits and background information to visitors. Thang Long Royal Citadel archeological site handed over to Hanoi authority The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held a ceremony on April 27 to hand over management authority of Zone D at the Thang Long Royal Citadel archeological site to Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee. Earlier, the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee received the authority for Zone A, B and C of the vestige. With the handover of Zone D, the Hanoi administration now has control of the whole area of the historic site located at 18 Hoang Dieu Street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi. The handover is part of the Government’s commitment to UNESCO to preserve and promote Thang Long Royal Citadel, which was recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 2010. Apart from the site space, the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee also received 1,177 cubic metres of bricks, tiles and stone artifacts, as well as reports on outcomes of excavations at the site. Local fashion designer heads for Audi Star Creation final Designer Nguyen Hoang Tu (center) and models. Vietnamese Nguyen Hoang Tu has become one of 12 finalists in the fashion design competition Audi Star Creation 2014 (ASC) in Singapore. ASC is one of the four main events of the Asia Fashion Exchange festival. The finalists, who hail from seven Asian countries and are aged between 16 and 25, have been picked following the screening of 418 entries from 14 countries. They will face off at the Runway Showdown, organized at the [email protected] in Singapore on May 12. They will be required to submit six original and commercially viable designs that reflect this year’s theme “The Asian Perspective”. The Amazing Race to unveil nine celebrity teams Transgender singer Huong Giang from Vietnam Idol 2012 contest and her partner, Vietnamese Canadian athlete Criss Lai, will be one of the nine teams to compete in the third season of The Amazing Race 2014 Nine couples who are models, singers and actors had a meeting with local media to announce the third season of The Amazing Race Vietnam. Models Trang Khieu and Trang Khan, singers Kiwi Ngo Mai Trang, Huong Giang Idol, Son Ngoc Minh Vmusic, Miko Lan Trinh, Dinh Khai Anh, and actors Long Dien and their partners showed up at the meeting.
