The young woman from Central Thanh Hoa Province’s Thanh Minh Commune had given birth just days before and along with numerous other patients had been isolated by floods for three days. New age of technology brings hope to the blind (01-08-2008) by Khanh Van As he deftly uses the computer at his massage centre in northern Hai Phong Province, one would be hard pressed to guess that Nguyen Khac Tiep is blind. But Tiep, now a 27-year-old accountant, was first acquainted with the computer at a young age and found it accelerated his studies. During his four-years at the Hai Phong University, Tiep used his computer to take notes and record his lectures. He has also used technology to help other blind students catch up with their sighted peers by compiling books on tapes, or "talking books" as he likes to call them. "It is not easy for blind students like me to pursue an education. However, thanks to devices like talking books and computers, studying has been made possible and easier than relying on Braille.
