When the Vietnam National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation was established in 2014, it received just 200 registrations, most including center officials and staff while the rest comprised medical workers. The number rose to more than 20,000 in 2017 and over 46,000 in 2021. Currently, it stands at almost 50,000. In the past, Vietnamese were not willing to share parts of their bodies as many believed one should die wholly to prepare for the afterlife, said Center Director Dong Van He at its meeting in Hanoi on Monday. However, in recent years, many "touching" stories about donations following brainstem death have inspired people to change their views about dying, he said. SMQ Department conducts voluntary blood donation
The program was co-held by the Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (SMQ) under the General Staff and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. With the participation of a large number of officials, employees and soldiers of the Department of Standards, Meterology and Quality, the blood donation drive collected nearly 100 units of blood. Military units well carry out gratitude work
The whole military has built 1,769 gratitude houses, worth more than VND 141 billion, for national contributors and policy beneficiaries across the country. The Ministry of National Defense alone has donated VND 6 billion to assist the construction of 75 gratitude houses for national contributors. In addition, defense agencies and military units currently take care of 1,489 heroic Vietnamese mothers and foster 121 children of wounded and sick soldiers. They have presented 505 savings books, worth more than VND 5 million, to national contributors and policy beneficiaries. Apart from that, units in the whole military have bought medical equipment and facilities for convalescent centers for national contributors and provided military uniforms for wounded soldiers who are being treated at centers. Vietnam marks 61 years since the AO disaster on August 10 this year. Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Victims of AO/Dioxin (VAVA), said the Party, State, and people have made wholehearted efforts with the highest sense of responsibility to care for revolution contributors, including those suffering from toxic chemicals in the resistance war and AO victims. Many policies on the settlement of AO consequences have been carried out, he said, noting that the State has spent tens of trillions of VND each year on providing monthly allowances, health care, and functional rehabilitation for AO victims and aiding the AO-hit areas. GDT’s youth requested to pioneer in performing assigned tasks
Over the past five years, leaders at all levels in the GDT have promoted their leadership and created favorable conditions for its youths. Meanwhile, Youth Union work and youth movements in the whole unit have recorded progressive achievements, contributing to accomplishing all political tasks of the unit. In addition, 1,884 Youth Union members have been admitted to the Party.
