Saturday's victory at the Cam Pha Stadium in the northern province of Quang Ninh helped Vietnam move past nine regional titles won by Thailand. However, besides the Southeast Asian titles, Thailand also won one pan Asian title - the 1983 Asian Cup. Coach Mai Duc Chung has contributed to six of Vietnam's 10 regional titles. The Vietnam women’s football team have wrapped up their 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign in style after grabbing a 1-0 victory against archrivals Thailand in the title match on Saturday night to successfully defend their gold medal at the region’s largest sporting event. The game at northern Quang Ninh Province’s Cam Pha Stadium, which was fully filled with 16,020 spectators, was Vietnam’s ninth consecutive SEA Games final and the sixth in a row for Thailand. Vietnam U23s are scheduled to face their archrivals Thailand U23s in the final of men’s football at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi on Sunday evening. The highly-anticipated match will begin at 7:00 pm on Sunday at My Dinh National Stadium in the capital city and will be aired on VTV6 Channel, FPT Play, and ONFootball. Experts considered that Vietnam U23s and their Thai peers as neck and neck, and that any team can win if making good use of their opportunities. Some believed that the Golden Stars, who are defending their SEA Games gold medal, will triumph and seize the gold medal thanks to their home field advantage. The bronze in the event went to two pairs from Vietnam. In the women’s individual event, the final match was between Anchisa Chanta and Luksika Kumkhum, both from Thailand. Luksika Kumkhum beat Anchisa Chanta 2-1 to win gold. The bronze medal was shared by Vietnam’s Chanelle Van Nguyen and Alexander Eala from the Philippines. Vietnamese female weightlifter sets three new SEA Games records
Along with securing a gold medal, Vietnam’s weightlifter Pham Thi Hong Thanh set three new records in snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift in the women's 64kg event on May 21 during the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31). Thanh lifted a total of 230kg - 104kg in snatch, and 126kg in clean and jerk, 6kg and 2kg higher than the old records, respectively. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – After four days of competition, the Vietnamese judo team has won nine gold medals, three times higher than the set target for the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31). On May 21 alone, Vietnamese judokas pocketed three gold medals, one by Hoang Thi Ha in the under-45kg event, Hoang Thi Tinh in the under-48kg category, and Nguyen Hoang Thanh in the under-55kg event. Three respective runners-up are Ngamluan Pimngam from Thailand, Muenjit Wanwisa also from Thailand, and Mercado Daryl John from the Philippines.
