Unilever Vietnam came first among the 100 best places to work, followed by Vinamilk and Microsoft Vietnam. Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk), the country’s leading dairy processor, was the only Vietnamese-owned firm in the top ten. Good wages, bonuses and job-life quality made Vinamilk stand out as a great place to work. Unilever took the lead in terms of good promotion opportunities and corporate fame. Vietnam attracts US$10 bil in FDI in eight months In the first eight months of the year, foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam dipped 19% compared to last year’s corresponding period to US$10.23 billion, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Out of 51 nations and territories from around the globe investing in Vietnam during the eight month period, the Republic of Korea (RoK) took the lead with FDI of US$3.22 billion, comprising 31.5% of the cumulative total for the period. The RoK was trailed by Japan with US$1.27 billion in FDI, Hong Kong at US$1.19 billion and Singapore at US$972.8 million. The processing and manufacturing industries, with 492 new projects and FDI of US$7 billion, was the leading sector attracting FDI, accounting for 68.4% of the cumulative total for the eight month period. Boosting sustainable development More than 200 businesses from across the country gathered at a meeting in Nghe An on July 19 to discuss measures to boost sustainable development. At the meeting, the Vietnam Association of Small-and Medium-Sized Enterprises (VASME) pointed out problems with credit loans, financing, market management, production, trade promotion and the quality of workforce. Businesses are short of capital for production but find it difficult to access loans because of high interest rates. Around 30 percent of businesses are able to access bank loans but the remainder must use their own capital or borrow from other sources. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Deputy General Director of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (BARD) said that the bank focuses its loans for agriculture and rural development and considers small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be strategic partners.
