Social work training to boost drug rehab work The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs yesterday, Sep 7, launched a three-year project to build capacity for social-work students and State social workers. The US$200,000-project funded by the international Atlantic Philanthropies is being carried out by the ministry's Department of Social Protection with technical support from the global health and development organisation Family Health International (FHI) 360. The project was initiated in response to the National Programme on Development of Social Work Profession for the 2010-20 period, said Nguyen Van Hoi, deputy director of the department. Core staff from the Social Work Faculty of University of Labour and Social Affairs and provincial departments of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in 10 selected provinces and cities, would be trained to provide professional case management services for drug users, Hoi said. Mekong Delta strives to cut poverty rate Mekong Delta provinces will strive to help more than 44,000 households escape poverty this year, bringing the region’s poverty rate down to 6% from 7.2% at the end of 2013. Toward this goal, policies will be adopted to facilitate the development of household economy and farms as well as small industry and traditional crafts, thus increasing incomes for farmers. At the same time, vocational training and job placement in rural areas will be improved to help poor labourers find a suitable livelihood. A programme to build new residential areas safe from flood will continue to be implemented this year with the goal of settling 138,000 households including 27,000 poor families. More poor ethnic minority households will be given land for housing. Provinces in the region will also grant health insurance cards to poor people to cushion them against risks. Passengers survive bus plunge in Quang Nam Ten people were injured when a bus suddenly fell into an abyss yesterday morning in Dai Quang Commune, in the central province of Quang Nam's Dai Loc District. The bus, carrying 37 passengers and being driven by Pham Quang Dung, a resident of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, was on its way from Dak Lak to the central Hue city, a source from Quang Nam Province's transport police said. When the bus reached My An Village, it suddenly turned right and rolled down the hill. Luckily, the bus got stuck on the edge of the hill, saving the lives of all passengers and the driver. Dai Loc District police and local office workers immediately reached the accident site and carried out rescue work. At least 10 passengers were injured and sent to a local general hospital. Vietnamese students conned at casinos in Cambodia
Nguyen Thanh Khiem, vice chief police of Ben Cat District in Binh Duong, said his agency have detected many suspected brokers. "The problem is that many of them who have been cheated by similar scams have now turned to lure their friends into the casino cons," he said. Local media have reported on Vietnamese youngsters being tricked at Cambodian casinos for years, but the problem has become worse due to an increase in the number of casinos just across the border. They have been built to attract Vietnamese gamblers. Gambling is illegal for locals in Vietnam. Many students in Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc said they'd been to casinos in Cambodia located just across the border with Tay Ninh Province. Tay Ninh is 100 kilometers to the northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Binh Duong, located 30 kilometers north of HCMC, is adjacent to Binh Phuoc. This historical meeting discussed the third and last strategic attack in the General Offensive and Uprisings in spring 1975. The meeting assessed the situation, “We are better than the enemy in terms of strategies and military and political force. HCM City’s eastern bus terminal to move
Work to relocate HCM City’s Eastern Bus Terminal (Ben Xe Mien Dong) in Binh Thanh district will begin in early 2018, allowing tens of thousands of passengers to use daily services, the general director of the Eastern Bus Terminal has said. Coaches at the Eastern Bus Terminal in HCM City Nguyen Ngoc Thua said the relocation of the bus terminal would be done in three stages, with the first stage to start during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday of 2018. The city’s Department of Transport has asked the Sai Gon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO) – the operator of four bus terminals in HCM City – to provide bus services to transport passengers from the existing location in Binh Thanh district to the new facility in District 9. SAMCO broke ground for construction of the new Eastern Bus Terminal in District 9 in April. The Sai Gon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO) has broken ground for construction of the new Eastern Bus Terminal (Ben Xe Mien Dong) in HCM City’s District 9.The terminal complex, which will include convenience services, will be located in Long Binh Ward in District 9 and in the southern province of Binh Duong’s Di An Town, the SAMCO announced on Wednesday.The new Eastern Bus Terminal will cover an area of 16 hectares, three times as large compared with the existing Eastern Bus Terminal in HCM City’s Binh Thanh District.It will include 12.3 hectares in HCM City’s outlying District 9 and the remaining 3.7ha in Di An Town in Binh Duong Province.The bus terminal will be connected with metro line No. 1, linking Ben Thanh Terminal in District 1 with Suoi Tien Terminal in District 9.It is designed to accommodate more than seven million passengers each year who travel to eastern provinces as well as to localities in the central region and north Viet Nam, the … [Read more...]
