HCMC teenage gang jailed for robbing French tourist
Truong Quoc Thinh, 18, received seven years in prison for robbery and snatching, as sentenced by the Family and Juvenile Court under the HCMC People's Court on Monday. It is the harshest sentence for crimes committed by people aged under 16. Nguyen Chi Cuong, 19, received 7.5 years in prison for robbery. Five others, aged 17-21, received between four to six years in prison. Thinh said he met Cuong and the rest of the convicts as he wandered around the park near Ben Thanh Market in downtown District 1 back when he was 16. A man was arrested by police in Ho Chi Minh City just four hours after he robbed a local gold shop with a hammer on Monday. Officers under the municipal Department of Public Security confirmed on Monday that they had coordinated with police in Binh Thanh District to apprehend Nguyen Viet Cuong, 23. At the police station, Cuong claimed he had lost about VND20 million (US$862) in online gambling on Sunday night. Russian man caught growing cannabis plants at rented house in Vietnam
A Russian man has been caught illegally growing nearly 30 cannabis plants at a rented house in Vietnam for personal use and to provide for other compatriots. Officers in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province confirmed on Saturday they were looking into the violation of Shedko Dmitrii, a 33-year-old Russian national. Police inspected Dmitrii’s tenanted house in Ham Tien Ward on Friday evening and discovered he was growing 27 cannabis plants, each about one to two meters tall, inside his bedroom. The plants were kept in a mini greenhouse with watering, artificial lighting, and temperature control systems. Officers also found three kilograms of dried cannabis and other relevant items. Torrential rains sink streets in northern Vietnamese provinces
Torrential rains resulted in serious flooding along many streets in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang Provinces, northern Vietnam on Tuesday morning, leaving many cars almost fully submerged.
