The Danang Rehabilitation Hospital was located by the beach, on Vo Nguyen Giap Street. According to the locals, the hospital was relocated to new premises in Hoa Xuan Ward in 2019. The old hospital complex included five buildings but have been abandoned for over a year and littered with graffiti.
Pham Van Tai, director of Danang Rehabilitation Hospital, said when they were relocated in July 2019, the old hospital was transferred to Danang Housing Management Centre.
“We already moved all of the equipment like air conditioners, beds and medical machines to the new place,” he said. “The old hospital was opened 20 years ago and deteriorated very badly.”
Nguyen Van Phung, director of the Danang Department of Finance, said the old hospital is on the pending auction list. However, the process was slow because they are having some trouble with a case of property theft there.
Danang Housing Management Centre said they received the old hospital in November 2019. On June 25, 2020, related agencies assessed the remaining items and transferred them to Danang Housing Management Centre. Since then, they have hired guards for the old hospital and the remaining items.
“The theft happened before the old hospital was transferred to us. Danang People’s Committee is planning to transfer this case to the city police,” said a representative of Danang Housing Management Centre.
However, it is said that strangers are often seen breaking into the premises and stealing any items left there because of lax management.
