(Photo: Bernama) Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia will send 3,000 tonnes of plastic waste back to the countries it originated from, said Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change Yeo Bee Yin. Fielding questions from reporters after inspecting the shipments at Port Klang on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on May 28, Yeo noted that the country will send back 60 containers of trash that had been imported illegally. Ten of them are expected to be shipped within the next two weeks, with costs covered by the importers involved. Malaysian officials have identified at least 14 original countries of the unwanted waste, including the US, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, and the UK. The clean water station's ground-breaking ceremony in Khoen On commune by HEINEKEN Vietnam This is the 24th water supply project across the country that HEINEKEN Vietnam has sponsored to support communities in need of clean water with a value of VND300 million ($13 million). Khoen On commune is home to many ethnic minority groups. The people living here are currently using untreated water from nearby rivers or streams. These sources cannot always meet the daily needs of people, especially during the dry season. Canada spends 1 million USD to ship rubbish back from Philippines

(Source: ABS-CBN News) Ottawa (VNA) – The Canadian Government has signed a contract with shipping company Bollore Logistics Canada to bring containers of waste back to Canada from the Philippines, Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna said on May 22. According to the tender, it will cost at least 1.14 million CAD (nearly 1 million USD) to do so. McKenna’s office said the rubbish will be treated to meet Canadian safety and health requirements, and then disposed of by the end of this summer. All the costs associated with the preparation, transfer, shipment, and disposal of the waste will be covered by the Canadian Government. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Executive Secretary of the Presidential Office Salvador Medialdea issued a memorandum on May 20, directing all department secretaries and heads of agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, and government financial institutions to refrain from issuing travel authorities for official trips to Canada. Canada initially refused to bring the garbage back to their soil, citing lack of authority over the private shipper.
