According a recent joint survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation, Việt Nam is currently the second biggest consumer of beer and liquor in Southeast Asia-only after Thailand-the 10th largest in Asia and the 29th largest in the world. The survey shows that 77 per cent of Vietnamese men drink liquor and beer, nearly half at hazardous levels. The ministry is considering a ban on sales of liquor and beer after 10pm, aiming to reduce the negative impacts of drinking. Ambassador Nguyễn Phương Nga, Permanent Representative of Việt Nam at the United Nations made the statement at the Open Debate of the United Nations Security Council on "Children and armed conflict" chaired by Malaysia in New York on August 2, 2016. Ambassador Nga spoke highly of progress made to protect children from armed conflicts. "Thousands of children have been released from armed groups; States concerned are implementing their respective Council-mandated action plans; child protection policies have been incorporated in peacekeeping operations," she said.
