Developers clamour for legal clarity

Developers clamour for legal clarity, Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Nguyen Manh Ha, vice chairman of the Vietnam Real Estate Association, said that tourism real estate needs to break down barriers to development as soon as possible, in order to move alongside the general economic recovery. “Currently, mechanisms and policies for resort real estate are unclear, especially in terms of new types of real estate such as condotels, officetels, and second-home villas in resorts,” Ha said. The legal framework has not kept pace with the reality of hospitality and resort real estate development, thus partly hindering the growth momentum of these types of property, Ha added. They are not given a right use certificate, known as a red book in Vietnam, because they are built on land plots permitted for developing tourism property only, and not for residential projects. Doan Van Binh, chairman of CEO Group, said that supply is scarce not only in Vietnam but worldwide due to the impact of … [Read more...] about Developers clamour for legal clarity

An overview of the event to launch the report (Photo: WB) Hanoi (VNA) - For Vietnam to realise its aspiration for reaching high income status by 2045, the country will need to shift its economic growth model and sharply improve the government’s capacity to coordinate and implement economic policy reforms and public investments, a World Bank Group report says. The World Bank Group ’s Systematic Country Diagnostic Update , entitled "How Will Vietnam Blossom? Reforming Institutions for Effective Implementation”, emphasises that Vietnam's traditional growth model faces major challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, slowing globalisation, and the country’s increasing vulnerability to external shocks, especially climate risks. After identifying a series of policy responses and reform priorities, many of which are not new, the report argues that adapting institutions will be the key to success. Vietnam’s GDP per capita has increased five fold over the past three … [Read more...] about Vietnam should shift economic growth model for further development: WB report

Vietnam aims to be 50 percent urbanized by 2030

May 19, 2022 by e.vnexpress.net Leave a Comment

At a Wednesday conference held by the Communist Party's Secretariat regarding sustainable development of Vietnam’s urban areas by 2030, with vision until 2045, Tran Tuan Anh, head of the Central Economic Commission, said the Party's decision-making Politburo has requested for quicker, better urbanization, as well as sustainably developing urban areas into networks. By 2025, the urbanization rate of Vietnam would be around 45 percent, with 950-1,000 urban areas. By 2030, the rate would be at 50 percent with 1,000-1,200 urban areas. The goal means Vietnam would need 100 more urban areas in the next decade. The country would also have certain urban centers at national and regional level, with medical, education and cultural criteria similar to other urban areas in countries among the top four in Southeast Asia. In those urban areas, the ratio between traffic land and construction land must be at 16-26 percent in 2030. Tree coverage for each person on average must reach 8-10 per … [Read more...] about Vietnam aims to be 50 percent urbanized by 2030

Equinor reaffirms entry in Vietnam’s offshore wind

May 19, 2022 by vir.com.vn Leave a Comment

Jens Olaf Økland, Equinor’s senior vice president Why did Equinor choose now to open an office in Hanoi? We believe it is very timely to open an office now. Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and power markets. With its long coastline and favourable wind conditions, the country has among the best wind resources in Asia and a strong desire to develop an offshore wind market. The country is on a path to becoming net-zero and offshore wind can enable this transition. We believe Vietnam has a high potential to become an interesting growth market for offshore wind and have therefore opened a representative office in Hanoi. Vietnam has set ambitious targets for offshore wind both for 2030 and 2045 which would result in Vietnam being one of the top offshore wind markets globally. The end of the decade is not that far away and a lot of things still need to come into place, both on the regulatory side and for the industry, but this is also natural in the … [Read more...] about Equinor reaffirms entry in Vietnam’s offshore wind

Japanese M&A in Vietnam on a steady track to bigger deals

May 19, 2022 by vir.com.vn Leave a Comment

The deal value in Vietnam by Japanese investors last year was more than triple the figure of 2020. Why has there been a sharp increase in Japanese mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals? Masataka “Sam” Yoshida, head of the Cross-border Division of RECOF Corporation and CEO of RECOF Vietnam Co., Ltd This rise was due to an exceptional deal done by SMBC Consumer Finance, in the amount of nearly $1.38 billion, which acquired FE Credit from VP Bank. In fact, there have been several relatively big deals by Japanese investors ranging from $50-100 million every two years during the last 10 years – however, this one was by far the largest. Apart from this one, we recognise that most of the Japanese-related deals were around $5-30 million in size, which did not show any big difference from before 2020. What is M&A activity like so far in 2022 for Japanese groups here? Despite the aforementioned mega deal by SMBC, most Japanese investors had to wait until travel … [Read more...] about Japanese M&A in Vietnam on a steady track to bigger deals
