Vietnamese, Cambodian border provinces convene judicial conference

In his speech, Vietnamese Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long recalled that ten years ago, in December 2009, the Ministries of Justice of Vietnam and Cambodia signed a memorandum of understanding on legal and judicial cooperation, creating an important legal foundation for bilateral cooperation activities. Since then, many activities, including high-level delegation exchanges, experience-sharing, realization of agreements on mutual legal assistance in civil matters and extradition of sentenced persons, have been carried out. At the event The Vietnamese minister also highlighted the agreement on organizing in rotation such a biennial judicial conference as one of the remarkable cooperation outcomes. Conference held to seek measures for the comprehensive development of children

Themed “Working across sectors to promote nurturing and sustainable environments for young children,” the event attracted the participation of over 500 delegates from 35 countries and territories and 44 UN, international, and regional organizations. Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam speaking at the event The three-day conference aims to raise awareness among policymakers and those who study threats to children’s development as well as to mobilize efforts in taking care of children. Delegates will share experiences in multi-sectoral models and programs to mitigate the impact of toxic environment on children, promote a nurturing environment for them, and increase multi-sectoral partnership in the field. Chan made his statement while delivering the keynote address at the opening dinner of the sixth International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) in Singapore on May 14. In his address, Chan mentioned challenges in piracy and terrorism, noting that an underestimation of an attack at chokepoints like the Panama or Suez Canals could be catastrophic and potentially cut off trade connections between major regions of the world. Singapore calls on regional nations to implement common rules for seas

(Source: www.mindef.gov.sg) All Asian-Pacific countries need strong consensus in implementing common rules for the seas to maintain maritime security, Singaporean Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen has said. Ng made the call at the opening ceremony of the 12th International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEX) Asia in Singapore on May 14. While underlining the importance of marine trade to the Asian-Pacific region, he said despite global uncertainties, including trade disputes and security tensions, trade volumes through the seas have been increasing and are expected to increase further. US experts: China should refrain from actions further militarising East Sea

(Photo: AFP) Washington D.C (VNA) – China and other concerned nations should refrain from actions that further militarise the East Sea and parties need to sit down for negotiation via diplomatic channels to resolve the issue, according to an US expert. China’s growing militarisation of the East Sea makes the situation more complicated and probably causes misunderstanding in an area that has already suffered from many conflicts and complexity, Lindsey Ford, Director for Political-Security Affairs at the US’s Asia Society Policy Institute told Vietnam News Agency during a recent briefing by the University of Pennsylvania’s global research centre Perry World House.
