On March 19, in Hanoi, the Vietnamese government handed a symbolic baton to United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt to officially announce Vietnam’s commitment to implementing the UN’s road crash prevention goals. To successfully organise the important event, the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism has developed a draft hosting programme. Thus far, there are 25 provinces and cities with strong potential for tourism development that have registered to organise 99 events in response to the National Tourism Year 2020. In a recent working session with the Ninh Binh tourism sector, the VNAT asked the province to build its own logo and identity for the National Tourism Year 2020 in association with the Ninh Binh tourism brand. In addition, Ninh Binh has been urged to focus on building activities and events in four main groups, including preparation for the event, main activities (opening ceremony, seminars and investment promotion conferences), response activities (in key tourist attractions and neighbouring localities) and promotional activities for the event. Doctors from Singapore set to help nation’s injured athletes (27-02-2008) HA NOI — Injured athletes will soon be on the road to recovery thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Viet Nam Sports Hospital and Singapore’s Parkway Group Healthcare on Monday. Injuries to athletes have foreshortened many a promising career – never more so than in Viet Nam, which has until recently lacked the necessary facilities to treat athletes who have often been forced to seek medical attention abroad. Director of the Viet Nam Sports Hospital, Dr Le Quy Phuong, said there are about 40 doctors in Viet Nam who are specialists in treating sports injuries. But he said they are too few to treat the hundreds of athletes needing attention. And that he said did not take into account the needs of amateur athletes.
