SYDNEY - The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Australian Associated Press (AAP) have signed an agreement to enhance co-operation and the exchange of information. The agreement was inked by VNA General Director Nguyễn Đức Lợi and APP CEO Bruce Davidson at AAP headquarters in Sydney, Australia, on Thursday. The agreement aims to help further foster links between the two news agencies and strengthen the partnership and effective co-operation between media firms in Việt Nam and Australia. Under the agreement, the two sides will exchange English-language news stories and high-quality photos, thus meeting the increasing information demand of both countries' people. The first Vietnam Press Cartoon Contest held by the The Thao & Van Hoa (Sports and Culture) newspaper under the auspices of the Vietnam News Agency and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association shows the importance of press cartoons in modern press. Press cartoon has been ignored for many years despite it’s useful function and popularity with readers. 85 years ago, when President Ho Chi Minh (then named Nguyen Ai Quoc) set up the first revolutionary newspaper The Pariah in 1922, he himself drew the very first cartoons to show the Vietnamese people’s opposition against the French colonialists. Art and press photo exhibitions start in city
Both the 33rd Ho Chi Minh City Art Photograph Festival and a press photo exhibition entitled “Golden Moment” opened Monday. They feature photographs that won prizes at two recent contests. With its theme “The Year 2008: Year of Civilized Urban Lifestyle”, the festival is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Photographers’ Association and the Exhibition Information Center of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Being held at LamSonPark in District 1 and at the office of Photographers’ Association at 122 Suong Nguyet Anh, District 1, the festival highlights 13 winning photos and 99 others selected from more than 900 that were entered in a recent art photography contest. Truck crash kills one student, injures three others A truck killed a student and severely injured three others today in an accident in Bau Lam Commune, Xuyen Moc District in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The truck reportedly went over to the opposite lane and hit a group of four students from the local Hoa Binh High School, who were on the way to school. The truck's driver and another man who was in the truck were also slightly injured when it fell off the side of the road. The case is under further investigation.
