IBM on Monday announced alliances with Apple and others to put artificial intelligence to work drawing potentially life-saving insights from the booming amount of health data generated on personal devices. IBM is collaborating with Apple, Medtronic, and Johnson & Johnson to use its Watson artificial intelligence system to give users insights and advice from personal health information gathered from fitness trackers, smartphones, implants or other devices. The initiative is trying to take advantage of medical records increasingly being digitized, allowing quick access for patients and healthcare providers if the information can be stored and shared effectively. IBM wants to create a platform for that sharing. "All this data can be overwhelming for providers and patients alike, but it also presents an unprecedented opportunity to transform the ways in which we manage our health," IBM senior vice president John Kelly said in a news release. "We need better ways to tap into and analyze … [Read more...] about IBM teams with Apple on artificial intelligence health program
Google Inc is expanding its artificial intelligence initiative, hiring more than half a dozen leading academics and experts in the field and announcing a partnership with Oxford University to "accelerate" its efforts. Google will make a "substantial contribution" to establish a research partnership with Oxford's computer science and engineering departments, the company said on Thursday regarding its work to develop the intelligence of machines and software, often to emulate human-like intelligence. Google did not provide any financial details about the partnership, saying only in a post on its blog that it will include a program of student internships and a series of joint lectures and workshops "to share knowledge and expertise." Mark Zuckerberg wants to build an artificially intelligent assistant in 2016 to help run his home and assist him at work, the Facebook Inc founder and chief executive said on Sunday. Zuckerberg, who commits to a new personal challenge every year, revealed his plan in a Facebook post. "You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man," Zuckerberg wrote, referring to an artificially intelligent butler who appears in the Marvel comic books and movies. Zuckerberg will start the project by exploring existing technology, he wrote. He will then begin teaching the technology to understand his voice so that it will learn to control everything in his home, such as music, lights and temperature. His plans also include teaching the assistant to let friends into his home by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell, Zuckerberg wrote. The assistant will visualize data to support Zuckerberg at work, he wrote. "This should be a fun intellectual challenge to code this for myself," … [Read more...] about Mark Zuckerberg unveils 2016 plans for artificially intelligent butler
FPT Group is developing an artificial intelligence (AI) program as a platform for developing tools that conduct conversations via auditory or textual methods. The pilot FPT Artificial Intelligence project provides free support for users interested in chatbot. The test version of FPT AI has been made available for users since mid-April at https://fpt.ai/. Scientists have applied natural language processing/understanding (NLP/NLU) techniques to FPT AI. FPT AI can support apps with voice or text interaction. FPT said it is a user-friendly product which is built based on cloud computing. FPT AI is applied in the FPT Telecom and FPT Shop retail chain. FPT shops use FPT AI to develop chatbot programs in Facebook Messenger to automatically answer customer questions and send information about new promotions, products and services. FPT also supplies this product to several telecom companies in Singapore and a healthcare provider in the U.S. SGT … [Read more...] about FPT develops artificial intelligence
