Vietnamese business software-as-a-service (SaaS) startup True Platform announced on Monday that it had recently closed a US$3.5 million round of seed funding, one of the largest capital investment deals in Southeast Asia. The angel investors include January Capital, Alpha JWC Ventures, BEENEXT, FPT Corporation, and many others. The funding round was led by January Capital, a venture capital firm headquartered in Singapore with a portfolio of 40 startups, from pre-seed rounds to Series C, in the Asia Pacific region, True Platform said in a statement. Vietnamese lender SeABank to sell up to 15 per cent of its stake to foreign investors
In response to an inquiry from Bloomberg News, SeABank CEO Le Thu Thuy said that the bank may make an offer to sell around 13.78 per cent of its current charter capital. The bank has not as of yet settled on a particular agenda for the potential deal. According to persons who are familiar with the subject, the bank is working with a financial adviser to try to pique the interest of potential purchasers, which may include private equity firms and other financial institutions. SeABank could allegedly sell up to 15 per cent. One of SeABank's former minority owners was the French financial institution Societe Generale SA, which has been a stakeholder in the Vietnamese bank for close to ten years. Torrential rains sink streets in northern Vietnamese provinces
Torrential rains resulted in serious flooding along many streets in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang Provinces, northern Vietnam on Tuesday morning, leaving many cars almost fully submerged. In Bac Giang City, the capital of the namesake province, severe inundation was recorded on Hoang Van Thu and Ngo Gia Tu Streets, as well as at the Nguyen Van Cu-Nguyen Thi Luu intersection and Quang Minh Apartment Building. Vietnam’s stock market on foreign funds’ radar amid possible upgrade to EM status: HSBC
Vietnam has outperformed major regional indices, making the market nearly quadrupled in size compared with the start of 2012 and the trading exceeding $1 billion a day. In its latest report, HSBC has stated that many funds already have Vietnam’s stock market on their radar with excitement about the country’s potential inclusion in the emerging market (EM) index. Vietnam allocates over US$3.9 billion to three national target programs
The Vietnamese Government will implement solutions to ensure the efficient management and use of the funds. Vietnam’s National Assembly Standing Committee has decided to allocate over VND92 trillion (US$3.9 billion) from the central budget for the 2021-2025 period to localities implementing three national target programs. Three national target programs include a program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, one for new rural area construction, and another for sustainable poverty reduction.
