Vietnamese stand in Sri Lanka attracts a large number of visitors The Vietnamese Embassy joins other countries and international organizations from India, Russia, the US, Japan, Malaysia and the UN in an exhibition in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka from February 4-7. This is the first time Vietnam has taken part in the event of this kind since the establishment of its embassy in the country in April last year. The Vietnamese stand shows video images of the country’s people and land, as well as lacquer products, souvenirs, and publications on bilateral ties. It has attracted great attention from visitors, including Sri Lanka Foreign Minister G.L Peiris. This is the biggest annual event on Sri Lanka’s development achievements to mark its National Day. Record book announces new records The Vietnam Record Books today announced 4 new national records: the biggest rice map, the longest rice road, the biggest tea set and the largest wedding ceremony. The biggest rice map was made with 23 different kinds of seeds from various locations such as Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Long An, Can Tho. 55 artisans worked with 16.2 kg of seeds from October 28 to November 5 to create the map which is 6m wide and 9m long and has an area of 54 square meters to represent 54 different ethnicities in Vietnam. This map was made for the second rice festival in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on November 8-11. Also as a part of this festival, a 1.2 kg stretch on Soc Trang’s Hung Vuong Road lined with 47,000 rice pots was also unveiled. This road is now recognized as the longest rice road. Startup models get 28,000 USD in Swiss Innovation Challenge Three startup models were awarded cash prizes totalling 28,000 USD at the final pitch of the Swiss Innovation Challenge (SIC) Vietnam 2017 competition in Ho Chi Minh City on September 13. The “Share Car For Ads” initiative won the first prize worth 15,000 USD. It will also represent Vietnam in the final international competition to be held in Switzerland next month. DropDeck, a platform designed to rank firms calling for investment and help investors find and assess potential startups in a fast and accurate manner, won the second prize worth 5,000 USD. The third prize of 3,000 USD went to “Smart assembling parking lot” initiative, using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, which helps increase parking space. (Cinet)- The Khmer people’s Chol Chnam Thmay New Year Festival has been organized at the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Hanoi from April 14-16. Chol Chnam Thmay - the New Year festival on the Khmer people’s traditional calendar - usually falls in mid-April and lasts 3-4 days. It also marks the end of the dry season and heralds the start of a new farming season. This holiday is the New Year festival in ancient calendar of Khmer people. Credit growth negative for last two months The credit growth of the banking system as of Tuesday stood at minus 0.16% against late 2012, versus minus 1% in January and minus 3% in the same period last year, according to the Credit Department of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The credit growth for 2013 is set at 12%, counting banks’ investment in government bonds. A senior source from SBV said whether this target can be achieved or not greatly depends on the capital absorptive capacity of the economy and the health of enterprises. The Credit Department said it would continue to strictly manage credit quality of banks to prevent capital from flowing into inappropriate places, producing no effect. Classification of credit groups will be announced soon. SBV will take into account governance capacity and capital scale of each bank and then list them into groups with specific credit growth limits.
