Music book gets place in Vietnam Guinness Book of Records A press conference was held in the Loging Restaurant in District 1 on January 19 to announce the entry of a music book composed by 48 year-old composer Le Van Tuan in the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records. The music book naned "Tear for the Ocean and CROR Music" is 1.6 - meters high, 1.2 - meters wide, 0.28 - meters thick and weighs 250 kilograms. It is a compilation of classical, romantic, opera and rock (COROR) forms of music. The book also includes poems, drama, paintings and allegorical stories. Among the eight symphonies in the album are also Late-coming Spring, Thatched Roof Home, Princess and Come Back to the Desolate Hamlet. A ceremony to make the formal announcement will be held on January 27 when the Union of UNESCO Vietnam organizations will also introduce a new centre for culture and communication. Spring Flower and Beverage Festival 2011 opens in Hanoi The Spring Flower and Beverage Festival 2011 is being held at the Vietnam Culture and Art Exhibition Center in Hanoi from January 25 to 30. The festival organizers plan to use this occasion to gather people’s opinions on various national costumes, flowers and wines of Vietnam. The ‘People's Choice’ result will be announced on January 29. The festival will have special displays of Vietnamese and royal costumes from the Ly-Tran-Le dynasty, famous brands of delicious traditional and industrial wines and photographs and decorations of the lotus. Vietnam hosts international children painting contest Global Art Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training has launched a painting contest titled “My world-My future” for children aged 4-16 from across the world, on July 7. The contest aims to help children express their wishes, dreams and feelings for the environment and the world in the future, besides encouraging their creativity, aesthetic sense and a chance to intermingle with children from different cultures. The qualifying round will be held between Aug. 15 to Oct. 15 at schools in cities and provinces of Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Da Nang. About 1,500 contestants will take part in the final round in Ho Chi Minh City in November. New faces of Vietnamese literature introduced worldwide “New voices from Vietnam” a US-Vietnam translation project will introduce short fictions by 19 young Vietnamese authors to foreign readers. The entries represent a culture and aesthetic that differs radically from previous generations of Vietnamese writers, reflecting stories from a vibrant culture racing through changes wrought by rapid modernisation and globalisation. The project, carried out by Charles Waugh, an American PhD in fiction writing, is among 16 others funded by the US National Endowment for the Arts, which aim to bring literary works from 14 nations and in 12 languages to the US audience. Danish aid supports art projects in VN Eight new contemporary art projects of national and foreign artists in Vietnam will get US$100,000 financial support from the Danish Vietnamese Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) in late 2013. The information was released by Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen at a press conference on November 27. Accordingly, the new projects are related to dance, visual art, music and multimedia. CDEF is part of the cultural development programme between Vietnam and Denmark, with its sponsorship money worth US$1 million in five years (2011-2015). John Nielsen said CDEF supports high- standard projects in various fields of contemporary art. It had so far sponsored some art projects at a total cost of US$500,000. The Danish Ambassador expressed his hope CDEF will fund more projects in different regions of the country not only in Hanoi, Hue, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.
