Vietnam supports democratic process in Somalia: Diplomat

New York (VNA) – Vietnam supports the democratic process in Somalia, particularly the upcoming elections, Minister Counsellor Nguyen Phuong Tra, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, has said. At the informal dialogue with between the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Somalian Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak on January 20, Tra expressed her hope that the Federal Government of Somalia, member states and political parties will make more efforts to reach political consensus on specific date to hold elections as well as seek solutions to existing challenges. Regarding the security situation in Somalia, Tra condemned the bomb explosion that killed at least six military personnel and government officials in Lower Shabelle on January 17, as well as other attacks on civilians, security and military forces, and establishments of the UN and the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). Purchasing power for Tet goods flourishes

Revenues jump by up to 37 percent In recent days, many supermarkets have seen lots of footfalls. At certain times of the day, customers have to wait in line for their turn to pay. Ms. Nguyen Minh Ha, a customer of Co.opmart Nguyen Dinh Chieu in District 3, shared that this year her family decided not to travel but to stay in the city to celebrate the Tet holidays. So, when she had free time, she visited supermarkets to buy decorative products for her house and food to make many delicious dishes for her family. Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, CEO of Saigon Co-op, said that in the first week of January this year, the purchasing power of the whole network surged by 37 percent compared to the previous week. Revenues surged robustly in a wide range of essential commodities, from fresh and processed foods, cosmetics, kitchen appliances to garments. Vietnam advised to invest more in vocational training

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam needs to develop dedicated technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes to enable its transition to the fourth Industrial Revolution, increasing worker productivity and the country’s competitiveness, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) says in a new study. The study named “Reaping the Benefits of Industry 4.0 through Skills Development in Vietnam” examines the logistics and agro-processing industries in the country which are both important for growth, employment, international competitiveness, and the fourth industrial revolution. ADB Country Director for Vietnam Andrew Jeffries suggested Vietnam consider new approaches to ensure inclusion and social protection for entry level workers, especially those at risk of job displacement, and those who need upskilling, while applying the fourth industrial revolution technologies.
