Dr Phan Chi Thanh of the hospital’s department of examination says patients like Mai could require a hysterectomy and face the risk of no longer being able to have children if not treated promptly. When Mai and her high school boyfriend discovered she was pregnant, they were both confused and scared, and decided to get an abortion done at an illegal clinic. But the pregnancy was already too advanced and the procedure was done at an unsanitary facility. Thanh says many adolescents do not want to get abortions done at public hospitals and so go to unlicensed clinics or do it by themselves at deserted places to prevent others from finding out. After nearly 300 years, two whale skeletons in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam have been restored and put on display for public view. It is common practice amongst Vietnamese fishermen to store the skeletons of whales that washed ashore in temples. There, locals worship the bones of these massive sea creatures. In Ly Son District, a string of islands off the coast of central Vietnam, two of these skeletons were recently completely restored for a public display. Grandfather fish Fishermen in Vietnam call whales ‘grandfather fish,’ implying that they are of a high status. In Ly Son, an area which holds whales in particularly high regard, locals are excited for their two recently restored whale skeletons to be put on display. “Very soon everyone will get to see the grandfather fish at the Tan temple,” said 79-year-old Pham Thoai Tuyen. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has proposed to the National Assembly (NA) to allow Vietnamese people aged 18 to use casinos. HCMC proposes to allow 18-year-olds to play in casinos At a Tuesday meeting, the committee proposed to the NA deputies and the government to consider policies to promote the city’s nightlife for economic development. "We can pilot the organisation of casino games at 5-star hotels, major tourist attractions, and at the same time allow Vietnamese who are 18 years or older with full civil and financial capacity to participate," the committee said. The committee also wanted the government to consider expanding visa-exemption policies to more countries, implementing e-visa procedures, and extending the temporary stay period for international visitors to Vietnam from 15 days to 30 days from the date of entry.
