Ha Long authorities vow to punish cheating tour operators
Ha Long People's Committee said they had read a complaint from Facebooker Linh Mai about poor service at OYO Hai Anh VIP Hotel. Mai said the hotel cancelled her booking without notification and there were signs that Hai Anh 10 cruise had increased prices illegally. On May 19, Mai's family booked two rooms from May 29 to 31. However, on May 29, Mai called the hotel and suddenly was told that her booking has been cancelled and no one wanted to take responsibility. On the following day, the family visited Ha Long Bay on the Hai An 10 cruise but complained that the prices were too high and the tour time had been cut short by an hour. They only had 30 minutes to visit Dau Go Cave. Vu Hong Son, vice chairman of Ha Long People's Committee, said after receiving the news, they had asked the Department of Culture and Information to work with the city police and related agency to investigate the accusations and report back by June 6. Kon Tum (VNA) - About 200 sets of winter clothes were presented to primary school students in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum by the Vietnam News Agency’s representative office in the Central and Central Highlands region and the Kon Tum Power Company on the morning of January 26. The students, who are from the Xe Dang ethnic minority group, are studying at the Dak Nen Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities in Dak Nen commune, Kon Plong district. The school has a total of eight campuses, the farthest of which is in Dak Puk Village, 30km away from the centre of Dak Nen. The Dak Pao campus has only five students in first grade; the smallest number of all. The handover was part of a programme to bring impoverished children in mountainous and ethnic minority areas a warmer Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday. More new COVID-19 cases recorded in Southeast Asia
Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand on January 26 reported 959 new cases of COVID-19, a record daily rise since the start of the pandemic. The figure included 937 community infections, 914 of which were recorded in Samut Sakhon province, while the remainder was imported. Samut Sakhon became the epicentre of a new COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand last month, following a mass testing on migrant workers from Myanmar and Thai citizens. Thailand’s national tally now stood at 14,646, with 75 deaths. Total recoveries exceeded 10,000 and more than 3,600 cases are under treatment. In Indonesia, the national count exceeded 1 million on January 26 after the country logged 13,094 new COVID-19 cases. The death toll increased 336 to 28,468. On the same day, Cambodia recorded two new cases, both imported, taking the national count to 460.
