The 3G and 4G brands are here to stay in the market. That is the message from a trio expos Vietnam International Communications Summit & Expo 2011 (Vietnam Comm 2011), Vietnam International Internet & IT Exhibition 2011 (Vietnam Internet & IT 2011) and International Exhibition on Electronics Products in Vietnam 2011 (Vietnam Electronics 2011) which open on November 16. Typically, VNPT Group’s VinaPhone and MobiFone have gained successes through providing 3G services. Bui Quoc Viet, director of VNPT Group’s information centre, said the two mobile operator affiliates had signed an increased number of 3G subscribers. VinaPhone reportedly signed up around two million regular users of 3G services. 3G revenue accounted for 13 per cent of VinaPhone’s revenue. Viettel pilots 4G mobile Internet service Van Ly By Van Ly - The Saigon Times Daily HANHOI - Military-run telecom group Viettel started providing 4G mobile Internet service on a trial basis in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau over the weekend, becoming the first 4G network operator in Vietnam. Viettel has built nearly 200 base transceiver stations in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria City and Long Dien District for the pilot launch of the service. The average speed of the service is 40-80 Mbps, seven times higher than the average speed of 3G, which has been popular in Vietnam. It can reach 230Mbps in some places. The company will offer free SIM cards for customers who want to get hands-on experience in the high-speed mobile Internet service at home and on the go to watch HD films and digital TV programs, listen to music, and read news.
