Hanoi helps firms implement trade deals
Double digit export growth According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the export turnover of goods in June 2022 reached about US$1.517 billion, up 6.8 percent from May 2022 and 17.5 percent from June 2021. In the first half of this year, the commodity exports turnover reached US$8.3 billion, up 17.1 percent over the first half of 2021. Some key items with increased export turnover in this period included textile and garment, reaching US$1.22 billion, up 29.6 percent; computer components and peripherals, US$1.072 billion, up 20.2 percent. The total import turnover of goods hit US$3.675 billion in June and US$20.5 billion in the first six months of 2022, the latter of which is 24.5 percent higher than the same period in 2021. Credit institutions to provide customer information to tax authorities
The State Bank of Viet Nam’s headquarter in Ha Noi. — Photo baochinhphu.vn The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) has issued an official letter to credit institutions and foreign bank branches on information provision and coordination with tax administration agencies. SBV proposes credit institutions follow Government decrees on keeping secret and providing customer information of credit institutions, foreign bank branches and circulars and guiding documents of the Ministry of Finance on providing information and coordinating with tax administration agencies. The letter lists several legal provisions: The Law on Tax Administration 2019, Clause 2, Article 27 stipulates the duties and powers of commercial banks in providing information on account numbers according to taxpayers' tax identification numbers when opening an account. North-South express railway to seek Politburo’s approval

(Photo: VietnamPlus) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Transport will submit to the Politburo for consideration an investment policy for the construction of a North-South express rail link, which would cost up to 58.71 billion USD, this September. The ministry has been conducting numerous studies on the scheme since 2005. The ministry has consulted various ministries, central organisations, experts and scientists to develop and revise the pre-feasibility report for the project. It has asked for written agreement from 20 cities and provinces where the railway will pass through. A State Appraisal Council has also been established by the Government in 2019 to assess the pre-feasibility report, given that it is an unprecedentedly large project. The 1,435mm dual gauge railway will be around 1,545km in length, running through 20 cities and provinces, including Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam, UK cooperate in fighting illegal immigration
The dialogue was part of U.K. Home Office Permanent Under-Secretary Matthew Rycroft's two-day visit to Vietnam. The dialogue aimed to improve migration cooperation, deliver on the potential of the existing migration partnership and discuss key issues, including four pillars: communication on immigration and safe migration, migrant returns, fraudulent documents and updated policies on immigration and migration management, and addressing human trafficking. Crushed: family mourns husband, son killed in UK fire
Tran Thi Huy, 28, of Dien Chau District in the north central Nghe An Province, is the wife of 31-year-old Nguyen Van Uoc, who has been confirmed dead in a mill fire in Oldham, Manchester back in May. On Saturday, Huy received a phone call from the U.K. The person on the other side was a representative of the Manchester police, informing her fingerprint analyses of a body found in the aftermath of the fire showed that it belonged to Uoc, one of four Vietnamese nationals reported missing last month. They said a DNA analysis would be done next to confirm the fingerprint analysis. A month ago, hair and nail samples of Uoc’s family members were sent to the U.K. police by a Vietnamese citizen living in the U.K. who came back home to collect them. Minh Khac represents Vietnam at Man of The Year 2022
Nguyen Minh Khac, the runner-up of The Next Gentle Man contest, arrived in the Indonesian province of Bali on August 15 to compete in the Man Of The Year 2022 pageant. Born in 1992 in Ho Chi Minh City, Khac stands at a height of 1.82 metres. The Vietnamese model graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and received plenty of compliments due to his masculine appearance and strong communication skills. Vietnam records 2,192 new COVID-19 cases on August 12

The new infections raised the country’s total caseload since the pandemic broke out to 11,362,540. A total 5,897 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on the day, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 10,009,451. There are 116 patients in serious conditions needing breathing support . One death from COVID-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood at 43,096. On the day, 630,923 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered, raising the total number of shots given out to 250,409,815.
