Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Van (Photo: VNA) Paris (VNA) – The Jury of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the L’Oréal Foundation on June 22 presented the L’Oréal-UNESCO International Rising Talent Award in 2022 to Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Van , a chemicals scientist who is working at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment. With her research in developing new materials to the production of green hydrogen, Dr. Van has become one of the 15 young women scientists representing the five continents in the world to receive the award. Since 2000, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme has highlighted the achievements of younger women who are in the early stages of their scientific careers. Activities and initiatives regarding Hanoi are part of the “dual goal,” as culture always serves as momentum for the development of any city, according to historian Duong Trung Quoc. Nostalgic works The jury panel has selected dozens of works, ideas and deeds over the past years for nominations. These include projects associated with the city’s development and works by Hanoi citizens and even one foreigner. German photographer Thomas Billhardt, whose photos of the Vietnam War taken in the late 1960s helped him to gain fame worldwide, is the only foreigner nominated for the 14th awards. The Swiss - Vietnamese Medical Association (HELVIETMED) announced on Monday the list of seven Vietnamese scientists who had won the Alexandre Yersin Prize for outstanding research achievements in 2021. The first prize was given to Dr. Dang Quang Vinh and his associates in My Duc Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The second prize went to Dr. Vuong Ngoc Lan and colleagues at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Hoang Khuong Duy and associates at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Nguyen Lam Vuong and colleagues at Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Luong Quoc Chinh and colleagues at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi; Dr. Nguyen Minh Nam and colleagues at the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City.
