Total revenue from tourism activities in the period is likely to reach 1.36 billion USD, up 3.9 times year-on-year, the department reported. In July alone, the capital city served 1.94 million tourists , earning over 260 million USD. Hanoi’s tourism sector set to welcome 9-10 million visitors this year, including 1.2-2 million foreigners. M&A value reaches USD 5.43 billion in seven months
The figure included the 885 million USD equity purchase of Korean KEB HANA Bank for 15 percent stake of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) announced on July 22. Since 2018, Vietnam has emerged as a big M&A market in the Southeast Asian region with many big value deals. Total M&A value last year reached 7.64 billion USD, down 25 percent compared to 2017’s record value of USD 10.2 billion. However, if excluding the USD 5 billion deal of ThaiBev’s purchase of Sabeco’s equity in 2017, the 2018’s M&A value still increased by 41.4 percent year-on-year. The Son La hydroelectric power plant is the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia, with six turbines having a combined capacity of 2,400 MW. The plant generates over 10 billion kWh of electricity a year. The operation of the plant has ensured absolute safety since it was commissioned nearly 10 years ago.
