Finswimmers set new heights at Games

Athletes broke five records in six events of finswimming at the SEA Games 31’s last competition day in Hà Nội on May 22.

Indonesian Janis Rosalita Suprianto won gold and set a record in the women’s 50m surface at 18.24sec.

She was followed by Vietnamese duo Nguyễn Thị Thảo (18.49) and Phạm Thị Thu (18.39)

The remaining four records went to Việt Nam, the most powerful team in Asia.

Veteran Nguyễn Thành Lộc finished first in the men’s 50m surface, setting a record of 15.60sec.

Indonesian Wahyu Anggoro Tamtomo was second (15.83) and Thai Khet Chamnanwat third ( 16.120)

Phạm Thị Kim Thương overcame all other rivals in the women’s 800m surface, making her personal best of 7:19.18.

Indonesian Andhini Muthia Maulida (7:28.67) and her compatriot Katherina Eda Rahayu (7:31.72) were second and third respectively.

In the relay event, the Vietnamese triumphed the men’s 4x100m surface. Their time of 2:25.57 is a new SEA Games record.

Thailand ( 2:30.740) and Indonesia (2:31.06) were the two runners-up

The last record went to the women’s 4x100m surface team as the hosts claimed their gold in 2:47.23.

Indonesia ( 2:47.66) and the Philippines (3:05.57) came second and third.

Earlier, Việt Nam also won in the mixed 4x100m bi-fin event (3:06.78).

Indonesia (3:07.43) and Thailand (3:13.65) took the silver and bronze medals.

After two days of competition, Việt Nam won 10 golds to top the tally.

Indonesia came second with three titles.
