So-called fortune market in Ho Chi Minh City brilliant in red ahead of Tet

January 24, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn Leave a Comment

Red envelopes, lanterns, and couplets have brightened up a decoration market on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City during the days leading to the 2022 Lunar New Year (Tet), which falls on February 1.

The market is widely known as 'Tai Loc' (Fortune) Market, where vendors sell a variety of Tet decorations, such as lanterns, red envelopes, pairs of Tet wishes, red couplets, and artificial apricots and peach blossoms.

Stretching 600 meters long, it has attracted many shoppers who want to give their houses a revamp ahead of the Tet holiday.

Although vendors have scaled down their stocks due to concerns that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may dampen market demands, their sales have picked up.

"Items with images of tigers [the zodiac animal of the coming lunar year] are popular this year," said Chau Gia Huy, a vendor at Fortune Market.

"I hope that from now until Tet, trading will be smooth.

"Tet is always the most important holiday of the year."
