The 10th sitting of the 14th National Assembly (NA) is projected to last for 19 days (the closing session is scheduled on November 17). This sitting shall be conducted in two phases, with the first one taking place in the videoconferencing format from the NA hall to the 63 National Assembly delegations of provinces and cities (from October 20 to October 27, 2020), and the second phase to be organised at the NA hall (from November 2 to November 17).
|The National Assembly is to delve into key issues in service of socioeconomic development|
At this sitting, the legislative body will spend seven days, accounting for over 37 per cent of the total time of the sitting on legislative work, with many laws on schedule for adoption (see box) .
The legislature will also review and decide important matters related to socioeconomic issues and the state budget: i) Reports on the implementation of the socioeconomic development plan and the state budget in 2020; socioeconomic development plan, state budget estimates, plan for central budget allocation in 2021; ii) Reports on the implementation of the NA resolutions on the 2016-2020 five-year plan: socioeconomic development, economic restructuring, national finance, medium-term public ‘investment; iii) Projected major goals and a number of tasks and solutions for the socioeconomic development period of 2021-2025; five-year finance, medium-term public investment plan for 2021-2025; iv) Report on the implementation of Resolution No.100/2015/QH13, approving the investment policy of national target programmes for the 2016-2020 period.
In addition, the NA will also review the working report of the chief justice of the Supreme People's Court and the prosecutor general of the Supreme People’s Procuracy; government reports on crime prevention and fighting, law enforcement and anti-corruption work in 2020; the report of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on the petitions of the people sent to the 10th sitting and report of the NA's Standing Committee on oversights in the implementation of voter's petitions delivered to the 9th sitting; and the report on foreign activities of the National Assembly in the year of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Chair.
The NA will spend 2.5 days reviewing reports and conducting questioning on the implementation of its resolutions on thematic oversight and questioning during the 14th NA and some resolutions of the 13th NA.
In addition, the legislative body will also discuss and provide comments on the draft document to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress; decide on the national election day for the election of NA deputies to the 15th National Assembly, and election of deputies to the people’s councils at all levels for 2021-2026.
The National Assembly will also review and approve the dismissal and appointment of the Minister of Science and Technology; the dismissal of the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam; the appointment of the Minister of Health; and judges of the Supreme People’s Court.
