After an argument with his wife, Mark Smith walked out of the house without his phone or wallet. The former soldier, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, had gone missing before – but this time was much more unsettling. Mark had been behaving increasingly erratically for the weeks leading up his disappearance in November 2017 and had previously stated his intention to “provoke police to shoot him”. Most ominously, serious concerns were raised as Mark posted on social media that he “wanted to end it all”, leaving uncomfortable fears he may be dead. Wife Denise was left waiting at home in an agony of uncertainty, she grew concerned that Mark may be taking deliberate steps to stop anyone from tracking him down and preventing him from carrying out his threat. In new BBC series Reported Missing, cameras follow the police as they launched an investigation which suddenly darkened, leading them to wonder if there may be more to his disappearance than meets the eye.
