The event also saw the attendance of the CMC permanent members, including General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the VPA’s General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister; and Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Defense Minister.
During the meeting, on behalf of MR2’s Party Committee, Political Commissar of the region Major General Trinh Van Quyet briefed the delegation on its preparations and plan for organizing its ninth Party Congress in the 2020-2025 term. Representatives from the GDP reported its evaluation of the Party Committee’s preparations for the upcoming Party Congress.

The CMC permanent members acknowledged and highly valued the preparations for the Party Congress. They said, the MR2’s Party Committee has closely grasped and strictly implemented all directions and instructions from the CMC, GDP, and the Inspectorate of the CMC on all-level Party congresses in preparation for the 13th National Party Congress.
They suggested, the unit should closely work with the Standing Committees of the nine provinces of the military region to prepare and organize Party congresses at the grassroots level.

Concluding the working session, General Lich highly appreciated MR2 Party Committee’s good preparations for the upcoming Party Congress in the 2020-2025 term.
The Defense Minister emphasized that the draft documents of MR2 Party Committee for the Party Congress should include guidelines, helping the military region’s armed forces well perform their military and defense missions and to strengthen its Party organizations.
According to General Lich, the Party Committee should early complete all necessary documents and make thorough preparations for the congress.
On this occasion, General Ngo Xuan Lich and the CMC permanent members also met with leaders of the nine provinces within the military region and were briefed on their socio-economic development and the implementation of military-defense missions.
General Lich highly lauded the achievements of the provinces, particularly in raising living standards and strengthening security-defense despite COVID-19 and natural disasters.
He urged local authorities to continue their coordination with the MR2 Command to thoroughly embrace and accurately forecast situations. He also encouraged them to actively and effectively recommend the Party and the State to develop local socio-economy and culture, consolidate local defense and security, and build civil defense and defensive areas.
